Year 8 Cadet Progression Course 2018

Monday 10th December 2018 to Friday 14th December 2018

The course takes the form of a residential program held at a conference centre near Mittagong, in the first week of the Christmas Holidays.

Because the Course is voluntary a charge of $160 is payable, including accommodation and transport, with Unit funds used to subsidise the remaining costs.

The Recruit Progression Course is designed to equip the boys with all the preliminary training necessary for full participation in the Unit as a senior cadet. Candidates who successfully complete this course are promoted to Lance Corporal. Over the four days in residence at the Course we cover all the recruit topics required by the Army and we include the first navigational trek for the boys in a nearby national park. We also attend an adventure training centre for team exercises such as raft building and low-ropes activity. The Course will be supervised by four Officers (School Staff) and a select group of older boys from Yrs 10 and 11 acting as assistant instructors.

After the rigours of Annual Camp this residential course in dormitories with fully catered meals each day may seem a little too easy, but the purpose of this accommodation is to allow us to concentrate fully on all the subjects we have to cover. We have a strong belief in the Unit that residential courses such as this one provide the foundation for the friendships and skills which are at the heart of our Unit aims.
