Archbishop Anthony Fisher presenting Angus Mullins with his award

From the Director of Mission, Phillip Davis

Congratulations to Angus Mullins as Waverley College’s recipient of the Archbishop of Sydney Awards for Student Excellence 2017. A medal and certificate were presented to Angus by Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP at a ceremony last Friday, 8 September at St Mary’s Cathedral College Hall.

The following, taken from the booklet distributed last Friday, describes the Archbishop of Sydney Awards for Student Excellence as follows:

“Established in 1999 by Edward Bede Cardinal Clancy, the Archbishop’s awards are an annual recognition of some of the outstanding young men and women in Catholic schools. They have been an important way of highlighting the very positive contribution that young people make to their local communities. Specifically, these awards recognise those young people who give witness to their Christian values and who actively contribute to the faith life of their school. Recipients of the award are practising Catholics who show responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.”

Angus Mullins is a House Prefect of Spirituality, Prefect of the Sodality of Our Lady and Captain of both Music and Debating. Angus’ strong academic performance is complemented by his consistent choral contribution to College and Parish Masses and Liturgies. He has also assisted as an altar server in his Parish.  Angus’ keen participation in Catholic Social Justice has included activities relating to the disabled, domestic violence victims, indigenous students and RUOK.
