2017 Timor-Leste Immersion: Submit your interest now

From Brad Thompson on behalf of the 2017 Timor-Leste Immersion

Students in Years 10 and 11 are invited to indicate their interest in participating in this year’s Timor-Leste Immersion Experience. The Immersion will take place from 6th-15th August 2017 and will involve ten students, travelling with three teachers from the College.

Now in its fourth year, the Timor-Leste Immersion is part of a major project engaging Waverley College’s broader community, the Christian Brothers of the Oceania Province and the Edmund Rice Foundation.

Our aim is to support development and education for the people of Timor-Leste.

Students participating in the Immersion will spend time interacting with the young people of the Ermera District of Timor-Leste, developing connections, building friendships, participating in community projects and learning about subsistence economies.

There will be opportunities to observe and support the work of the Christian Brothers in Timor-Leste, and visit organisations, both Government and Non-Government, working in Timor-Leste.  A visit to the Australian Embassy is also undertaken.  Students will gain an understanding of our neighbouring country’s past through visits to places of geopolitical and historical significance.

To gain greater insights into the Immersion, please view the Timor-Leste Haiku Pages via the link below:

The Expressions of Interest document can be downloaded from the Timor-Leste Haiku site under the heading ‘Timor-Leste Student Expressions of Interest 2017’.

If you have any questions regarding the Immersion, do not hesitate to ask

Or approach our past Immersion participants (now in Years 11 & 12), about their insights.
