Debating: CSDA quarterfinals and 1st Round CAS

Debating has gained steady popularity as a co-curricular winter activity at Waverley

Debating has gained steady popularity as a co-curricular winter activity at Waverley

From the Convenor of Debating, Cassandra Hill

On the last night of Term 2, Waverley competed in the Quarter Finals of the CSDA debating competition at OLSH.

Year 10 students –  Marco Emery, Gian Bonanni and Sam Hall – gave up their last Friday night of term to represent the school in the debate. They spoke brilliantly and raised many intelligent points in regards to the topic about freedom of speech. The result was contentious with the panel splitting on their decision. This is quite rare in debating and highlights how close the competition was. Whilst they did not win overall, they are commended on their eloquence and intellect and demonstrated the vast array of skills possessed by Waverley students.

The CAS debating competition began last Friday at Barker College. Congratulations to the 7B team who won their debate. Round 2 CAS continues this Friday at Trinity Grammar School.
