From the Director of Junior School, Anthony Banboukjian
Prayer of the Week
This week we pray for all those in our school community who are going through difficult times. May they forever be in our thoughts and in our prayers and may we give them all the love and support they need.
Tuesday 1st November is All Saints Day. On All Saints Day we honour all the saints from the past and present who have inspired us with their love for God. Like them, we too are called to be saints in our daily lives.

Wednesday 2nd November is All Souls Day. On All Souls Day we remember, with love, our relatives and friends who have died. We pray for their souls and give thanks for the special memories they leave with us.
Merciful Father,
Hear our prayer and console us. As we renew our faith in Your Son, whom You raised from the dead, strengthen our hope that all our departed brothers and sisters will share in His resurrection, He who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Year 5 Camp
Year 5 will be attending their annual camp this week spending three days at Vision Valley at Arcadia. It is an activity based program that challenges the boys and encourages them to make friends outside their normal friendship groups. A more detailed report will follow next week.
Festival of Bands Concert
I had the great pleasure of attending the Festival of Bands last Friday night and put simply it was brilliant. Our Junior School performers were outstanding and it is amazing to see how much they have improved through the year.
It was a wonderful evening with fabulous performances by all our Bands coupled with entertaining performances by special guest Clarinet and Saxophone virtuoso, Andy Firth.
Many thanks to all the music staff involved not only in this concert but for all their work with our boys throughout the year – very much appreciated.

Canteen Assistance
A plea for help from the canteen for Friday mornings from 8-9.00am as this seems to be a peak time for boys purchasing food. If you can help out please contact Julie or Sharon at the canteen.
Classes for 2017
The staff at the Junior School are in the process of organising classes for next year. This is a difficult process as we try to accommodate the needs of all our students. It would be appreciated if parents do not contact the school asking for their son be placed in specific classes as this is places a great deal of pressure on all involved. I would ask that you trust the judgement of the staff in this process.
Waverley College Junior School Christmas Appeal
Christmas time can be a lonely and difficult time for many people throughout Sydney, therefore this year we are hoping to support a few different charities that need our help this Christmas.
Year 5 – Matthew Talbot Hostel
The Matthew Talbot Hostel is a social justice initiative run by The St Vincent de Paul Society, aimed at helping the homeless men of Sydney.
Donations to include toiletries (preferably small travel size items), underwear, socks, chocolates, notepads, & pens.
Year 6 – Kids Helping Kids
The Kids Helping Kid program is an initiative run by The Smith Family aimed at helping the disadvantaged school children in Australia. We supported this charity earlier in the year by raising money on Edmund Rice Day.
Donations to include stationery for example, packets of pens, colouring pencils, textas, highlighters, scissors, erasers, pencil cases.
Giving Tree
You are invited to donate a gift for our Junior School ‘Giving Tree’. The gifts are for disadvantaged children throughout the local and wider communities of Sydney. The gifts are for children of any age range, both boys and girls.
These gifts need to be wrapped in clear plastic with the age range specified on the wrapping. The gifts are then to be brought into school and placed under the Christmas tree.

Calling all French speakers…
I am looking for native/ confident French speakers to read a short French picture book story to a small group of boys straight after lunch on French Day (1:00 pm). The activity should take no more that 15 minutes and I need 16 adults in total. If you are free and willing to help or if you know of any other French speakers who you think would be interested please email Miss Stephens as soon as possible: cstephens@waverley.nsw.edu.au
