Welcome Back!
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope the break provided your family with an opportunity to rest, recharge and spend quality time together. It has been wonderful to see our students return with energy and enthusiasm, ready to engage in the term ahead.
This term is always a particularly important one in the school year. Following on from Parent Teacher Interviews, it provides students with the opportunity to build on their learning from the first half of the year, and continue striving for personal and academic growth. I encourage all students to set clear goals for the term and to make the most of the support and opportunities available to them.
As we begin the term, I would like to take this opportunity to remind all families of the importance of maintaining high standards in all aspects of school life, including the wearing of the correct school uniform and ensuring haircuts are in line with our policy. Wearing the correct uniform with pride fosters a sense of belonging and respect for our school community. Similarly, haircuts should be neat, and in keeping with the expectations outlined on page 28 of the school diary.
We appreciate your support in upholding these standards, which contribute to a focused and respectful learning environment for all.
I look forward to a productive and rewarding term ahead and thank you, as always, for your partnership and support.
NAIDOC Week
This week, our school proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week 2025, a significant time in our national calendar to recognise, honour and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy,” is a powerful call to amplify First Nations voices and continue the ongoing journey of truth-telling, resilience, and cultural pride.
As a school community, we marked this important week with our whole school NAIDOC Assembly, where we had the privilege of welcoming Adam Goodes as our keynote speaker.
Adam, a proud Adnyamathanha and Narungga man and former AFL great, spoke with passion and purpose to our students. His message centred on the importance of understanding your own values, and how those values shape the way we live, lead and contribute to our communities.
He urged students to think beyond success in sport or academics, and to consider the legacy they wish to leave through kindness, integrity, and cultural awareness. He shared examples of tough times and challenges, both personally and professionally, and how he leaned on his values and the core people in his life to get him through.
He also shared his own journey of connecting more deeply with his culture, speaking powerfully about the strength he draws from his heritage, and the pride he feels in standing tall as a First Nations man. His words were both inspiring and thought-provoking, leaving a lasting impact on students and staff alike.
We were also moved by Ms Jade Sparks’ words, who shared her own connection to culture, and what NAIDOC means to her and her family. It was a dynamic and moving assembly that helps us to continue building a community where all cultures are respected, celebrated, and understood.
Save The Date
We are excited to announce that Clinical Psychologist, Dr Judith Locke, is offering a session for parents of students in Year 5-12 at the school.
Judith will deliver latest research and clinical experience to show positive, practical and effective strategies parents can use to help their tweens and teens continue to develop their confidence and capabilities.
The session will be held on Monday 25 August from 6-8pm. Further information about the session and registration details will be shared separately.
Home Learning Club
Click on the link to book – https://homelearningclub.youcanbook.me
We offer all students in Year 5 and Year 6 the opportunity to receive free additional support after school for the completion of home learning tasks. The afternoon sessions also provide a quiet, supervised study space for students who want to complete their assigned tasks.
Home Learning Club operates in the Learning Hub from 3pm until 4pm – on Mondays & Wednesdays, and in the 6 Gold classroom on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
The club runs during the school term unless there is a scheduled Professional Development meeting or school event and the club will be closed.
Procedures
Only register his name once to allow other students the opportunity to attend. The session is limited to 20 spots. There will be a roll call to ensure attendance.
Students are required to stay for the full session unless there is a message in the student diary requesting early leave; a parent’s signature will be required.
Behaviour
As it is important to respect the rights of others to learn and work, all students are expected to settle to work and not disturb others.

An important note to remember: if afternoon training sessions are cancelled, unfortunately, you cannot send your son to Home Learning as an alternative plan, as students are registered for the afternoon sessions in advance, and the capacity is always reached. Avoid messaging your son during this period unless it is urgent.
Co-curricular Update from Ms Sparks
Welcome back to Term 3! We are looking forward to continuing Winter Sport, picking up from Round 8 this Saturday, 26 July. Please keep an eye on App posts for fixtures, updated Training Schedule and the Extra-curricular Activities Schedule starting Week 2.
Students are encouraged to maintain high standards of themselves during their co-curricular responsibilities throughout the term.
When Winter Sport concludes after Week 3, students may want to take on Home Learning Club, Fitness Club, or another after-school commitment that encourages movement and an alternative to screen-time in the afternoons.
Reading, drawing and playing games or sports with friends is another way to spend time that would usually be spent on school training.
Selected students will also be asked to get involved in Track & Field after the conclusion of the Winter Sport season. Please wait to hear from Ms Sparks if your son will be invited.
We are looking forward to a wonderful term ahead and the Athletics Carnival on Monday, 11 August in Week 4 – more details to come out next week.
Go Waves for Round 8!
Rugby State Championships in Mudgee
Waverley was well represented on the weekend, playing for Randwick at the U11 State Championships in Mudgee.
Randwick Green Team (Leon Dunkley, Lachlan Walden, Liam Morrissey, Isaac Symes and Thomas Walker) won all 6 games, great defence with not many tries conceded and were undefeated 2 years running!
The Randwick White Team (Hugo Tonga, Fred Hughes and Beau Tweed) won 5 out of 6 games and scored a high number of tries.
Thank you to our Waverley community for sharing so many messages and photos of a very successful and fun weekend of rugby in Mudgee!
