Principal, Mr Graham Leddie
Vale Godfrey Quan
It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news of the recent passing of one of our parents and an old boy (1984), Mr Godfrey Quan. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go to the family during this incredibly difficult time, Mother Dyna and son Alex (Year 9).
In moments like these, the true strength of our community lies in our compassion and our connection to one another. I ask that you please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
This Week
It has been a productive week across the College. We have successfully concluded the NAPLAN exams and wish our Year 12 students the very best as they begin their mid-year examinations.
On Friday the College came together to celebrate Harmony Day – a significant event that highlights the importance of inclusivity and diversity within our community. As an Edmund Rice community, we pride ourselves on being a place where ‘everyone belongs’, and Harmony Day serves as a poignant reminder of the value we place on embracing our differences.
Our student body is made up of a vibrant tapestry of cultures and on Harmony Day, we acknowledge and celebrate it. In mentor groups, pupils shared food that reflected their cultural heritage, learning about and appreciating the traditions of their peers.
St. Patrick’s Day Mass
Mr Eamonn Brosnan, accompanied by students Oisin Hughes (Year 10), Lucas Barber (Year 10), Ben Fernandes (Year 10), Nico Peshos (Year 10), represented Waverley College at the Sydney Catholic Schools St. Patrick’s Day Mass.
It was the Solemn Mass of St Patrick and it was celebrated by Archbishop Anthony Fisher at St Mary’s Cathedral on Monday.

Gaelic Football
On Tuesday, our campus was filled with “Irish spirit” during the highly anticipated Staff vs Students Gaelic Football match. Experience and years of skill development shone through with the staff winning by a few goals. The cake sale proceeds from the day go towards Immersion Capital Works for our partner communities in Kenya, Cambodia, Timor Leste, and Fiji.
Year 11 Galmatic workshops
On Monday 16 March, our Year 11 students attended the Galmatic Car Maintenance workshops in house groups throughout the day. These workshops aim to provide young drivers with essential car knowledge for greater safety and confidence on the road and cover all the basic car maintenance checks to keep their car running smoothly.
The students were able to get under the bonnet to check the oil, coolant, fluids and battery and were given the opportunity to change a tyre in this interactive, hand-on workshop.

2026 World’s Greatest Shave
The 2026 World’s Greatest Shave campaign has been officially launched, continuing a long-standing tradition of supporting the important work of the Leukaemia Foundation. The initiative was recently introduced to the College community at the CAS Swimming Assembly, where it received a very warm and enthusiastic response from students and staff.
The World’s Greatest Shave has long been a significant part of Waverley’s Social Justice program, bringing the community together in support of Australians facing blood cancer. Each year, students proudly take part by shaving or cutting their hair to raise funds and awareness for vital research and support services.
This year’s head shaving event will take place on Friday 27 March, with participating students committing to raise a minimum of $50 for the cause. The campaign offers a meaningful opportunity for students to demonstrate compassion, courage and solidarity with those affected by blood cancer.
Members of the Waverley community are encouraged to support the initiative by making a donation or sharing the campaign with family and friends.
Every contribution helps fund life-saving research and provides support for individuals and families navigating the challenges of blood cancer. Through this initiative, Waverley students continue to demonstrate the spirit of generosity and service that lies at the heart of the College community.

A Season for the History Books: The 2026 Waverley College Basketball Presentation Night
The Waverley College Basketball community came together at Throwback HQ in Alexandria to celebrate a season defined by hard work, connection, and success. Current players were joined by Old Boys and families, reinforcing the strong sense of community that continues beyond school years.
The night featured basketball shoot-outs, raffles, and time spent connecting as a community, with plenty of energy throughout. It was also an opportunity to recognise the achievements of several teams, including the 10As and 2nd V, whose seasons reflected the depth and strength of the program.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of the 1st V, who secured the Rev Fr A.V. Smith Shield for the first time in 20 years. This achievement reflects the commitment of the players and coaching staff and marks an important moment in the College’s basketball history.
None of this would have been possible without the backbone of our program. A massive and heartfelt thank you goes to the Waverley Supporters Club. Their tireless dedication, behind-the-scenes coordination, and unwavering passion are what allow our players to thrive. From the early morning tip-offs to the final buzzer of the season, the Supporters Club ensures our community stays connected and our athletes feel the full force of the Waverley spirit.
To our players, thank you for your heart. To our parents, coaches, and Old Boys, thank you for your loyalty. The Shield is home, the culture is stronger than ever, and the future of Waverley Basketball has never looked brighter.
