Future public speakers in the making!

From the Convenor of Debating, Cassandra Hill

On Tuesday 22 November, the following students represented Waverley College at the Eastern Suburbs Public Speaking competition held at Kambala from 4:00pm to 10:00pm:

  • Isaac Kopsiatis Year 7
  • Sam Hall Year 9
  • Jordan Blazevski Year 9
  • Ayden Smith Year 12
  • Stephen Croft Year 12
  • Callum Stuart Year 12

They were required to write a speech based on a range of topics and present this in front of a rather large audience for 6-8 minutes. After this, they were given a random topic and 5 minutes preparation time to present an impromptu speech for 2 minutes. As you can imagine, this is a very nerve-wracking and difficult task.

The boys did exceptionally well. All students presented well-written and eloquent speeches that addressed mature ideas and concepts. They are commended on this fantastic effort. Not many people can speak publicly so confidently in front of an unknown audience and fellow competitors. Furthermore, having to do an impromptu speech is something many people find quite confronting.

Waverley College certainly has some future politicians, lawyers, teachers and actors! Well done boys!
