Prayer for the Week
What is the Transfiguration of our Lord? – Sunday 6th August
The Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord recalls the revelation of Christ’s glory on Mount Tabor in the presence of three of His disciples, Peter, James, and John. Christ was transfigured before their eyes, shining with divine light, and He was joined by Moses and Elijah, representing the Old Testament Law and the prophets. The Transfiguration occurred in the early months of the year, after Jesus revealed to His disciples that He would be put to death in Jerusalem, and before He made His way to Jerusalem for the events of His Passion during Holy Week.
At the Transfiguration, Father, You showed
Jesus in glory, a glimpse of what His disciples
would see in His risen life.
Bless us in our humanity,
with an awareness of Your presence,
leading us to share in Your divine life
even in our daily struggle.
Help us to deepen
our knowledge of the Law and the Prophets,
channels of Your grace throughout history,
and signposts for our journey.
Amen.

Thank you
On behalf of my family I would like to thank the Waverley Community for their thoughts and prayers on the passing of my father, Leon. We have really appreciated the cards, flowers and text messages. This support goes a long way to helping us get through the hard times.
Mr Chris Blenkinsopp
Please keep praying for Mr Blenkinsopp. He has remained in hospital throughout the holidays. He still has a long way to go and needs your prayers. We have heard he could be out of hospital in a few weeks. Keep praying. It is working!
Wakakirri
Well it’s almost here. Monday August 7 is Wakakirri night. After a great deal of hard work the boys compete in the first round of the Wakakirri competition at NIDA.
We wish Mrs Rollins and the group of almost 100 boys all the best of luck and hope that they can get through to the State finals.
Special thanks in advance to Ms Stephens, Ms Crewdson and Mr Ghattas for their assistance on the night.
Celebration of NAIDOC Week
We were very grateful for a visit from Fran Grant at our Junior School Assembly in Week One of this Term. Fran spoke to the boys about NAIDOC Week which took place from 2 to 9 July in the holidays. Fran, Lachlan Grant’s mum, is a very passionate advocate for Indigenous Rights and has recently begun work at the NSW Department of Aboriginal Affairs.
Fran shared a beautiful Powerpoint Presentation with the boys as she explained her Indigenous Heritage and the theme of the 2017 NAIDOC Week, ‘Language Matters’. The boys got to hear a beautiful rendition of Advance Australia Fair sung in Dharawal language and heard a bit about the recent First Nations conference at Uluru and the statement that came from this meeting, ‘The Uluru Statement from the Heart’.
CIS Touch Football
Jesse Lucantonio – Good luck to Jesse as he heads off to Wagga Wagga this week to represent us through NSW CIS at the PSSA State Touch Football Championships. Jesse will be in Wagga from Tuesday to Thursday. Best wishes from the whole school.

Future Event for Parents – Keep your sons reading
This event is for parents in years 5 to 12 and will be held in the Senior Library from 6.30pm to 8pm on Wednesday, August 30 with a light supper afterwards.
Parents can register with the Junior School or Senior School Library.
Class, Individual and Winter Sport Photos
Please note the date for the Individual and Class photos is Wednesday 9th August. I ask you ensure your son is at school on this date as the photos cannot be rescheduled. There will be no sport next Wednesday and ALL boys are to arrive at school in their full winter school uniform. As winter sports photos will also be taken all boys will need to bring in their Saturday winter gear on the day.
Father’s Day Mass – Message from Mr Ghattas
Dear Parents,
An early reminder that our annual Fathers and Grandfathers Mass will be held at Mary Immaculate Parish, Waverley on Friday 1st September 2017 (Week 7). The Mass will commence at 12:00pm followed by a BBQ Lunch at the Junior School. Please save the date in your calendar. Information regarding RSVP’s to this event will come out closer to the date.
Additionally, boys will be given the opportunity to go home with their family members at the conclusion of the BBQ at approximately 2:00pm.
Kind regards
Mr Stephen Ghattas
Winter Sport
This Saturday is the last game of the winter season. Good luck to all the boys and especially those teams that are striving for an undefeated season.
Opal Cards
We are trying to ensure all students are tapping on and off with their Opal cards when they get on buses after school. Transport NSW use this information in determining how many boys use a service and whether or not services should continue. It’s important to demonstrate by tapping on that these services are being used. You would hate to lose them and have to find alternative transport home. Parent support of this is greatly appreciated.
Photos
If anyone has photos from Saturday sport or any other Waverley College event that they would like to share with the rest of the College community could I ask you to send them in on a disk or memory stick to the Junior School office.
Name on all Student Property
Can I please stress the need to ensure your son has his name on all his gear. It makes it far easier to return any lost gear.
