Junior School: 2017 Term 3, Week 5

From the Director of Junior School, Anthony Banboukjian

Prayer of the Week

Tuesday 15 August, is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, where we remember Mary being raised at the end of her life. Mary is an example to us all of how to follow Jesus, to be with him and to minister in his name.

We all remember those people who have inspired us throughout our lives. They may have been mentors and friends, or people we met for a short time, but who have had an impact on us. There are those who quietly and unobtrusively go about their lives, being present to others and caring for them in different ways.

May we remember these people, along with Mary, as we acknowledge that we are all Christ’s disciples.

Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Throughout the week, say the Hail Mary to remind us of Mary, Mother of Jesus.

Mary, Mother of God: Pray for Us
Blessed Edmund Rice: Pray for Us
Live Jesus in our Hearts: Forever

Keep in your prayers

Please keep praying for Mr Chris Blenkinsopp. He has remained in hospital but is doing well. Mrs Hoare visited in week three to find him in good spirits. He still needs your prayers. We have heard he could be out of hospital in a few weeks. Keep praying. It is working!

Please keep Lachlan Korpar (5 Gold) in your thoughts and prayers. He is unwell at the moment and will hopefully be back with us shortly.

Good Luck

Good luck to Antonio Rizzo as he heads off to Inverell this week to represent us through NSW CIS at the PSSA State Football Championships. Antonio will be in Inverell from Tuesday to Thursday.

Best wishes from the whole school.

Book Week

Our book week celebrations started off with a great day on Monday with illustrator Matthew Lin guiding the boys in a lesson on how to draw amazing characters. The boys had a great time drawing their amazing looking characters.

As I’m writing this week’s Nurrunga the boys are being entertained by the fantastic author Morris Gleitzman.

The book fair continues all week and the real highlight of the week is our character parade which takes place on Thursday – looking forward to seeing  all the boys (and some of the staff) in their book character outfits.

Thanks to Mrs Harrison on a Wonderful Book Week Celebration. Your work is very much appreciated and to all those boys who made the effort to enter into the spirit of Book Week – especially all the Library Monitors who made it all work

Father’s Day Mass – Message from Mr Ghattas

An early reminder that our annual Fathers and Grandfathers Mass will be held at Mary Immaculate Parish, Waverley on Friday 1 September 2017 (Week 7).  The Mass will commence at 12:00pm followed by a BBQ Lunch at the Junior School.  Please save the date in your calendar.  Your can RSVP to this event by clicking HERE.

Additionally, boys will be given the opportunity to go home with their family members at the conclusion of the BBQ at approximately 2:00pm.

Walkathon

Over the past six years over $250,000 has been raised by the students of Waverley College Junior School and donated to charity. Money raised this year will be donated to the following organisations:

  • Edmund Rice Camps NSW
  • Sydney Children’s Hospital
  • Savio Education Centre
  • Prostate Cancer Foundation
  • Cure for Life Foundation
  • Local Families

Please be generous and help others less fortunate.

The walkathon will be held on Friday 15 September at Centennial Park.

Opal Cards

We are trying to ensure all students are tapping on with our Opal cards when they get on buses after school. Transport NSW use this information in determining how many boys use a service and whether or not services should continue. It’s important to demonstrate by tapping on that are using these services. You would hate to lose them and have to find alternative transport home.  Parent support of this is greatly appreciated.

Photos

If anyone has photos from Saturday sport or any other Waverley College event that they would like to share with the rest of the College community, could I ask you to send them in on a disk or memory stick to the Junior School office.

Name on all student property

Can I please stress the need to ensure your son has his name on all his gear – it makes it far easier to return any lost gear.
