Prayer for the week
As we continue on our Lenten journey this week let us pray:
God of Hope,
In our darkness you see the spark of your light.
In our struggles, you wrestle with us.
In our pain and suffering, you hurt with us,
In our weakness you lend us your strength.
In our ignorance, you try to teach us wisdom.
In our selfishness, you lead us to your way of the cross.
In the breaking down of our relationships you pave the way towards reconciliation.
In our falling short of your glory, you lift our eyes to see our potential.
Into our desperation you bring hope.
Into our brokenness you bring healing.
Into our failure you bring redemption.
Into our living you bring meaning and purpose.
Into our dying you bring life.
God of Hope,
Christ with us,
Redeem and transform us,
That we may truly be your people.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Thankyou to Mr Ghattas & Father Bernie
Thanks to all those boys and parents who joined us at mass on Saturday 10 March at Mary Immaculate Church. To see over 100 boys and families there to celebrate mass together at a non-compulsory school event was something special.
This was made even more so thanks to the beautiful liturgy given by Father Bernie; the wonderful singing & participation by our boys.
Special thanks to the following boys who assisted during the mass: Archie Godby, Bailey Barker, Fox Stapleton, Maximus Fitzpatrick-Levingston and Zack Mollica.
Well done Mr Ghattas and thanks to all the staff who attended at the church and preparing the barbecue.
Confirmation
The tradition for Confirmation has always been to receive the sacrament in the person’s parish of worship. The 2018 Confirmation programme offered at Waverley Junior School is for students who are members of St Charles Borromeo Parish, Mary Immaculate Church, Waverley. This is for students who live within the parish boundaries and identify as members of this parish. Homework Club
Parents please note that boys utilising the homework club after school should be coming to the library with homework to complete, assignments to work on or class work to finish. It should not be simply be used as a babysitting service.
All boys should also know what time they are finishing and how they are getting home. Homework club finishes at 4.30pm so please ensure your son is picked up on time.

Last Week of Summer Saturday Sport For Term 1
This Saturday sees all our Junior School teams play their last game of the term. As usual the participation has been great and the sportsmanship first class – well-done boys.
Please note this is also the last week of training for all summer teams this term.
Special mention
Over the last week or so a number of boys have been selected to represent the College at trials for both CIS AFL and IPSHA Football.
The following boys traveled down to Canberra to trial for the CIS AFL Team:
- Nate Smith
- Henry Kidd
- Tashi Harrison
Congratulations to Nate and Henry who will compete for CIS in the upcoming PSSA Carnival. Tashi was unlucky not to be selected.
The following boys headed off to Knox on Monday hoping to make the IPSHA Team for the CIS Football selection carnival:
- Dillon Duke-McCoy
- Sean MCLAUGHLIN
- Ricky ZANAPALIS
- Cillian TREANOR
- Milan MANN
Unfortunately none of the Waverley boys made it through but all five enjoyed the experience – well done.
Congratulations to:
Luke Newrick Year 5 who represented South Maroubra at the State Nipper Championship finishing with a Silver medal: Under 10s Beach Sprint and a Silver Medal: All age Beach relay.
Ben Pignatelli (5G) and Jack Johnson (5G) represented Coogee SLSC. They were both members of the team who won the Bronze medal in the U10 boy’s beach relay. Jack won a second bronze as part of the U10 mixed beach relay.
Zoltahn Szabo and Tristan Lee both belong to Coogee Nippers and attended the State Nipper Championships. They unfortunately did not get a medal but did extremely well in many of their events. Tristan came 7th in the swim final and Zoltahn came 10th. A top 10 placing at these events is definitely an accomplishment with such a large contingent of boys from across NSW. They both made many semi-finals in individual and team events.
Jack Johnson (5 Green) was awarded two bronze medals at the slsa Nippers nsw State championships at the weekend. One for U10 boys sand relay and one for U10 mixed sand relay.
Photos
If anyone has photos from Saturday sport or any other Waverley College event that they would like to share with the rest of the College community could I ask you to send them in on a disk or memory stick to the Junior School office.
