Prayer for the Week

On Sunday 28 May, we celebrated The Ascension of Our Lord.  On this day we celebrate the day that Christ, in the presence of His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven. The Ascension occurred 40 days after Easter Sunday.

Let us pray to all those who need our thoughts and our blessings as we say the Lord’s Prayer together:

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Year 6 Canberra Trip

Last week I had the pleasure of spending a day with the Year 6 boys in Canberra. The boys had a great time visiting all the important venues in our country’s capital city – AIS, The War Memorial, Old and New Parliament House and Questacon.

Their behaviour was excellent and all the reports from the staff involved were incredibly positive. Well done to all the boys in Year 6.

Many thanks to the staff involved – giving up three full days is never easy. Special thanks to Mr Meadley for all his time and energy in organising such a wonderful excursion.

Special mention

Congratulations to all the boys who trialled for the CIS rugby team this week. Well done to Joshua King, Mitchell Gavin, Darcy Standfield, Xavier Savala and Billy Lyons who just missed out on selection. Great news is that Lucas Young made the team for the PSSA Championships – well done to Lucas. I’m sure he will have a great time and represent the College with pride in the upcoming NSW PSSA Rugby Championships to be played in Newcastle from Tuesday, 22 August 2017 to Thursday, 24 August 2017.

Congratulations to Nicholas Anderson on his selection in the NSW PSSA AFL to compete in the 12 Years and Under Australian Football Championships which will be held in Darwin from 12 to 19 August, 2017. We wish Nicky all the best of luck and hope he has a great experience.

Nicholas along with Jackson MacAulay and Nate Smith were part of the CIS AFL that finished in third place in the recent State Championships – a terrific effort. Jackson won the Sportsmanship Award for the CIS team – well done, a great effort. Nate was one of the youngest players as he is only in Year 5 but from all reports played extremely well. Great effort from all the boys.

Sports Training

Can I please remind parents again about ensuring their sons are picked up on time after training.  It is extremely helpful if they know where you are picking them up from.

Please note that due the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend there are no games on Saturday 10 June.

Homework Club

Please note that the homework club finishes at 4.30pm.  It would be appreciated by all concerned if you could ensure your son is collected on time.

Blue and Gold Ball

Your son should have brought home a flyer for the upcoming Blue and Gold Ball to be held Friday 18 August, 2017.

It would be great to have a huge turnout of Junior School parents so start organising your tables now. Tickets will go on sale this Friday 2 June 2 at www.blueandgold.com.au

For any enquiries please contact Rebecca Curran, our Development Manager on rcurran@waverley.nsw.edu.au

Confirmation at St Brigid’s Church, Coogee

Year 6 parents are reminded that St. Brigid’s Church, Coogee will be holding Confirmation on Wednesday 30th August and the enrolment process will take place 20 and 22 June.

Parents can contact the Parish Office on 9315 7562 if interested.

If anyone has photos from Saturday sport or any other Waverley College event that they would like to share with the rest of the College community, could I ask you to send them in on a disk or memory stick to the Junior School office or email them to waterford@waverley.nsw.edu.au
