From the Head of the Senior Library, Bill Roberts
On Wednesday 30 August, 60 parents and boys were treated to an informative, fun and inspiring night on reading in the College library.
Our speakers communicated the value of reading.
The highlight included our school captain Tyler presenting on what has kept him reading over his high school years.
Head of College Graham Leddie spoke about how he uses Young Adult fiction, specifically I am Number Four, to connect with his teenage children and is currently reading a book about the importance of ‘grit’ and its relationship to wellbeing.
Mr Roberts spoke about some practical ways to raise the profile of reading and how reading is a great way to manage stress and build word power.
Our guest speaker Paul Macdonald entertained everyone with great anecdotes on reading and the top ten things to consider when connecting boys to reading.
Over the course of the rest of the year I will share these tips. The first tip:
“Reading platforms are changing – there are greater choices”
Key points:
- Reading is reading: the medium stories are read on is not the only or key consideration.
- Print books are being creative in how they present text.
