Year 9 open water swimmer Ned Wieland is in preparation mode to tackle one of the most iconic ocean swims on the planet and to become the youngest Australian ever to swim the English Channel. He is currently in training for an attempt to swim the Channel in July next year.

Ned will be holding a fundraiser on Tuesday 6 December at North Bondi Surf Club from 6.30pm. Part of the money raised will go towards Ned’s record-breaking attempt, while the remaining funds will go directly to Ned’s preferred charity, RUOK?

In 2015 Ned swam in the South Head Roughwater from North Bondi up the coast and Harbour to finish in Watsons Bay – 11km – to fundraise for leukaemia research in support of his friend, Xavier Slezak.

You can follow Ned’s journey to swim the English Channel in future editions of Nurrunga.
