Well done to all students, Convenors, Staff and Coaches on a good start to our full Summer program last week. We were up against Trinity in most activities with 2 Day Cricket also playing Barker. Our 1sts Touch Football headed to Oakhill for an early start to play in a gala day and in the 3 matches played they won 2 and lost 1.
Our 1sts Basketball started well against a very strong Trinity but unfortunately were beaten in the last quarter. Our 1sts Cricket against Barker bowled first and after Day 1 of 2 Barker were 10/178 and Waverley currently 3/54. Aarush Soni taking an impressive 5/44. Our 1sts Tennis had a heartbreaking loss after leading for much of those fixtures but showed a much improved performance. Our Water Polo is at home this week (St. Catherine’s) and would love as many supporters as possible.
Well done to our U15 AFL side that competed this week in the NSW AFL State finals. We beat the eventual winners in our first match but loss our second after the siren that cost us a spot in the final. However, the team and coaches performances were of the highest calibre.
Well done also to Mr Sam Douglas and our Mountain Biking Team and their parents for hosting the event at Wylde Park last Saturday. The event ran very well and the visiting schools gave a high praise to the organisation of the races.
Most teams have a tough round this weekend against Barker and once again we need to ensure we are meeting all expectations and codes of conduct at all times.
Most activities also have 4 more rounds that conclude on November 23 with 2 Day Cricket concluding on November 30.
Good luck to all activities!
This week the College presented and celebrated the new Summer season’s captains and 1sts teams.

Next Wednesday our all conquering U15 AFL side are playing at Tugerah for the NSW AFL State championships and we wish them well.
This week our 7A Man City Football side played in the inaugural Edmund Rice Cup. This team made it to the grand final where they lost on penalties to St Patrick’s 2-4. Congratulations on a great effort and well done to Hugo Larriera on being named MVP.
With the first full CAS Round this week I want to remind all students and parents of the Codes of Conduct for all participants including spectators. Please ensure all students are correctly attired at all times and also arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of fixtures for warm ups. Good luck to all teams and activities.
Congratulations to our Year 7 Footballers who finished a close second at the inaugural EREA Rice Cup at Valentine Sports Park on Tuesday.
With the EREA schools from NSW all making the trip including Edmund Rice College Wollongong, St Edmund’s College Gosford, St Patrick’s College Strathfield, St Pius X College Chatswood and St Dominics College Kingswood; The Year 7s had a great day of football and finished second in their pool to make the semi-final. The results from their pool games were;
Game 1 v St Dominic’s College, Kingswood: 0-0 draw
Game 2 v Edmund Rice College Wollongong (Black team): 2-2
Game 3 v St Pius X College, Chatswood: 3-0 win
With a short lunch break the boys were straight back into it getting a 3-0 win over Edmund Rice College Wollongong (Red team) to make the grand final.
With all the EREA schools staying to watch the final game of Waverley College vs St Patrick’s College, Strathfield the atmosphere was alive with the students cheering on for the teams for who they had only just met.
The grand final was a competitive game that finished 0-0 with both teams showing their fatigue after a full day of football in the sun. As a winner had to be decided for the day the match went into penalties.
Waverley was able to find the back of the net on the first two penalties taken. Unfortunately, the penalties finished 2-4 with St Patrick’s College Strathfield taking the win.
Congratulations to St Pats on winning the inaugural event and to the staff from Edmund Rice College Wollongong for organising a great initiative to bring the EREA schools together through sport.
Lastly thank you to Mr Charlton and Mr Darvill who coached the boys for the day.
Waverley College is seeking a corporate sponsor for our Rugby teams, offering a unique opportunity for businesses to partner with a thriving community and align their brand with the spirit of excellence, teamwork, and sportsmanship that defines Waves Rugby.
By becoming a sponsor, your business will enjoy significant visibility across a wide range of platforms, both locally and internationally. Sponsorship will provide prominent brand exposure at every training session, home game, and away match throughout the season. Your logo will feature on team kits and promotional materials, ensuring that your brand is seen by our passionate supporters, school community, and the broader public.
Waverley Rugby will also embark on an international tour, representing the college on a global stage. As a sponsor, your brand will travel with us, gaining exposure to international audiences and further solidifying your company’s association with excellence in sport.
Most importantly, your support will play a crucial role in making these tours more accessible to our students. By helping to reduce travel costs, you will be assisting families who might otherwise find it difficult to participate. This ensures all our talented players have the opportunity to experience the benefits of international competition.
This is more than just a sponsorship; it’s an investment in the future of young athletes and a chance to connect your brand with a vibrant and engaged community.
If your business is interested in partnering with Waverley College Rugby and gaining invaluable exposure while making a real difference, please contact me. We’d love to discuss how we can create a winning partnership!

Welcome back to Term 4 and we have already commenced our new summer season. This Saturday we have a number of fixtures as well as our final round of summer trials. All students should have now started their new summer program and please note that year Groups for co-curricular are labelled by their 2025 cohorts as the Summer season continues into Term 1.
Over the holidays we had a number of activities and students performing at high levels. Our Manchester City Camps were well attended and included a community camp for some of the girls in the local area. Our 1st XI had trials as well as playing the first day of their Round 1 match against Trinity at Queens Park. We also had a number of Basketball players and coaches give up a lot of their holidays for camps and tournaments. A huge thank you to those staff, coaches, players and parents for their efforts and commitments during the holiday period.
Next Thursday we will recognise our new Summer 1sts teams and captains and parents are welcome to attend. We will have special guest speaker Waverley Old Boy Noah Havard who recently won silver at the Paris Olympics.
Good luck to all activities this weekend!
As many of our Track & Field athletes took a well earned rest after the CAS Track & Field Championships during the holidays, several took the opportunity to test their athleticism against the best in the state at The NSW All Schools Athletics Championships from 28 September – 2 October at Sydney Olympic Park.
After a successful 6-week season Waverley took a strong contingent of 14 athletes to test their abilities at these Championships. These athletes were rewarded with several season bests, personal bests and achieving up to 10 podium individual medals across a variety of both Track & Field disciplines – with yet another two school records were broken, this time in the 14 years age group by Evan Rowbotham (1500m – 4:09.83) and Rory Muldowney (100m Hurdles – 14.11sec).
Despite so many outstanding performances only the Top 2 in each age group are selected to compete for NSW at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships. Waverley will be proudly represented by Evan Rowbotham (14 years – 1500m), Rory Muldowney (14 years – 100m Hurdles), and Filtomas Finekifolau (15 years – Shot Put, Discus & Pole Vault). These Championships will be held in Brisbane, QLD at QEII Stadium from 6-8 December.
We would like to congratulate all our athletes on a very successful Championships and we look forward to many more great performances as the club season continues through to April 2025.

Congratulations to Ollie Moclair who put in an outstanding performance at the Australian Short Course Swimming Championships.
Ollie won both the 50 and 100 freestyle Age Final in a personal best time, putting him in the 17yr old top ten rankings in the history of Australian short course rankings!
This is a wonderful achievement and I wish Ollie all the best in the long course season ahead.
The pre-season for the upcoming CAS competition has had its fair share of challenges. A new Head of Basketball, a new 1sts coach, introducing a new style of play, new concepts and a new culture, all in the space of four week.
That being said, the preseason has shown that when we play our fast paced, disruptive style of play we can beat any of the teams we have faced so far, both the firsts and the seconds.
Our Firsts have had preseason win over Shore by 10, Riverview by 18, Scots by 15, St Aloys by 20 plus, Kings School by 10 and my personal favourite, beating Knox at the Knox Invitational in overtime by 2 points.
The Seconds, after getting beat by Scots by 30 on our home court in a friendly, matched up against the same Scots College in the first game of the Knox Invitational. After one week in between the matches, our 2nds defeated Scots by 2 points and then went on to win four
straight matches by 20 points, just falling short in the finals to finish second in the tournament.
Credit to all the coaches, players and staff who put in the effort over the school holidays to make a strong showing at the preseason tournaments at the Knox Invitational and Barker Showdown.
A great start to an exciting season of basketball.

The 2024 CAS Track and Field Championships have been run and are done. A huge thank you to Mr Jeremy Roff and Ms Rebecca Gair for their efforts in leading our Athletics squad. A big thank you to all of the staff and coaches, as well as the staff that attended the big event on Thursday this week.
Our students in Years 7 and 12 as well as the 2025 College leaders who made the effort to come out and support were also extraordinary and had a wonderful evening.
Some of the highlights of the evening included Wol Albino breaking CAS records in the 100m and 200m, Evan Rowbowtham smashing CAS records in the 800m and 1500m and then backing up to win his 400m race as well as our squad captain Ricky Zanapalis winning the Opens 100m race. Our middle distance performances were extraordinary and we were also very successful in a number of field events. Our Track and Field squad have their presentation evening next Monday in the PAC starting at 6pm. Overall, Waverley finished 3rd and just 3.5 points off Knox Grammar in 2nd.
Well done to Trinity Grammar School who were deserved winners. Our journey towards 2025 Track and field glory starts in term 4 and we encourage all members of the squad to keep working as well as invite any students that also want to take part to being their training as well. Based on groupings last evening, Waverley finished second in the Juniors, second in the Intermediate and 4th in the Opens age group.
Final overall placings:
Trinity 1st – 698.50
Knox 2nd – 636
Waverley 3rd – 632.50

We also extend our congratulations to Koji Howard (Year 7) who placed 29th in the U14 3km race in a time of 12:17.
Our College Track and Field team continued to perform well at the invitational last weekend at ES Marks. Our throwers, jumpers and relays were all outstanding in particular. Mr Jeremy Roff and Ms Rebecca Gair have invested many hours into ensuring the success of our Athletics program and we are lucky to have such dedicated staff and coaches.
The CAS Track and Field Championships are on Thursday, September 19 at Homebush and Years 7 and 12 are required to attend as part of a compulsory supporters duty. Students will depart the College at 1pm and return to the College, Maroubra Junction or Hurstville by 9pm.

Students are welcome to bring their own food.
Well done to Evan Rowbowtham who placed first at the National Cross Country Championships last weekend, as well as Koji Howard who finished in the top 30 in the country.
Best wishes to our Cadet Unit who are at Appin this weekend for their first bivouac of the program.
A reminder to all other students that summer pre-season has commenced for a number of teams and activities and that most sports have trials on Saturday September 21.
Next Thursday, September 12 we have our Winter Co-curricular awards assembly and any award winners parents are welcome to join us.
Last Friday evening, the 2024 Football End of Season Presentation Night was held at Easts Rugby Club. It was a fantastic gathering of parents/carers, students, and coaches, all coming together to celebrate the achievements of the season and honour our deserving award winners.
The evening was made possible by the hard work and dedication of the Waverley Football Supporters’ Club, who organised the eve nt and the raffle. We extend our heartfelt thanks to them for their invaluable contributions.
Congratulations to all the award recipients listed below. Your successes this season continue to build the strong foundation of our Football community, and we look forward to what the future holds.
