As part of our Career program for Year 10 at Waverley College, we offer a Career Assessment program to all Year 10 students to assist with senior subject selection and choosing a career pathway.

The program will begin with a four-hour online career testing session run by Dr Marian Kratzing, a Careers Psychologist. Dr Kratzing has developed a unique career profiling system which she and her colleagues provide to many schools in Sydney.

In the profiling session, students will complete several questionnaires and tests designed to assess a variety of factors that are important in helping students select a University (ATAR) or Vocational (NON-ATAR) career pathway at school and beyond.

These will include an:

The cost per student will be $153.00 which will be debited to your College account. This includes a comprehensive written report and a 25-minute individual interview. The testing will be conducted on Tuesday, 28 February, 2023 in the College Gymnasium. It is important that all Year 10 students are present and punctual on this day.

Following their interview, students will be provided with an action plan to follow in order to investigate career alternatives more thoroughly that they have selected through the assessment process. Students will be supported in their research into different career and course options.

SCHOOL VACCINATION PROGRAM UPDATE

Keeping your child up-to-date with routine vaccinations helps to protect them from serious preventable diseases. As part of the NSW School Vaccination Program, students in Year 7 are offered free vaccines to protect them from diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (dTpa) and human papillomavirus (HPV). In Year 10, students are offered the free meningococcal ACWY vaccine.

Your consent is required for your child to receive routine vaccinations at school. If your child is in Year 7 or Year 10 this year, you can now provide this consent online.

This year’s school vaccination clinics will be held on Wednesday, 1 March 2023 and Tuesday, 19 September 2023. You can provide consent for your child’s vaccinations via Service NSW using this link.

From February 2023, only one dose of HPV vaccination is required to be fully vaccinated. This change has been endorsed by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) based on the latest evidence, showing that one dose provides the same level of protection against HPV as two doses.

If you have already consented to your child receiving two doses of HPV vaccine, they will only receive one dose. If your child is in Year 8 or above and previously missed their second dose of HPV vaccine, they are now considered fully vaccinated and do not require a second dose.

A small number of students who are immunocompromised are still recommended to receive a three-dose course of HPV vaccine. If your child is immunocompromised, it is important to discuss their immunisation needs with their GP.

If your child misses a school vaccination clinic, the school immunisation nurses will try to catch them up at their next visit. Alternately, you can speak to a GP or pharmacist about catching up on vaccination.

Dear  Parents and Carers,

As referenced in the Year 8 Assessment Booklets, there are some mandatory subjects where classes are streamed to ensure that students are supported appropriately and according to their needs. These subjects are Mathematics Years 7-10, English Year 9-10, and Science Years 9-10.

An overview for each of these subjects is outlined below:

As the Term and College year are now officially finished and with some students having been away over the last couple of weeks, the Book Hire Room will be open 8am-4pm, as well as a crate placed at the Senior School Reception from Monday, 5 December until Wednesday, 7 December for any outstanding textbooks that need to be returned.

Thank you so much for all your help and wishing everyone happy holidays!

One more week left until the end of the term and end of the school year. With all exams done and dusted, assessments handed in and the summer holidays just around the corner, it’s time for all textbooks and English novels to be returned to Book Hire!

As such, if everyone can please ensure that ALL their textbooks have been returned by no later than Wednesday, 30 November, that would be greatly appreciated.

Please note that Book Hire is open Monday-Thursday, 8am-4pm, with the library as the second drop off point if needed.

A HUGE thank you to all students who have been diligent and returned their books already :)

From 2020, students in NSW will need to meet a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy to receive the Higher School Certificate.

Students will have a number of opportunities to meet the HSC minimum standard from Year 10 until a few years after completing their Higher School Certificate.

Students will demonstrate they have achieved the minimum standards by completing three online tests. These online tests are 45-minutes long each, and may include:

For students who did not sit the tests in the first opportunity earlier this year, there will be a re-sit towards the Yearly Examination period.

A separate communication will be sent to students, however students must bring a fully-charged laptop and a pen to the testing.

For further information, please see the HSC Minimum Standard Information on the NESA website by clicking on the button below.
