Please read this important school vaccination program update from NSW Health.
SCHOOL VACCINATION PROGRAM UPDATE
Keeping your child up-to-date with routine vaccinations helps to protect them from serious preventable diseases. As part of the NSW School Vaccination Program, students in Year 7 are offered free vaccines to protect them from diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (dTpa) and human papillomavirus (HPV). In Year 10, students are offered the free meningococcal ACWY vaccine.
Your consent is required for your child to receive routine vaccinations at school. If your child is in Year 7 or Year 10 this year, you can now provide this consent online.
This year’s school vaccination clinics will be held on Wednesday, 1 March 2023 and Tuesday, 19 September 2023. You can provide consent for your child’s vaccinations via Service NSW using this link.
From February 2023, only one dose of HPV vaccination is required to be fully vaccinated. This change has been endorsed by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) based on the latest evidence, showing that one dose provides the same level of protection against HPV as two doses.
If you have already consented to your child receiving two doses of HPV vaccine, they will only receive one dose. If your child is in Year 8 or above and previously missed their second dose of HPV vaccine, they are now considered fully vaccinated and do not require a second dose.
A small number of students who are immunocompromised are still recommended to receive a three-dose course of HPV vaccine. If your child is immunocompromised, it is important to discuss their immunisation needs with their GP.
If your child misses a school vaccination clinic, the school immunisation nurses will try to catch them up at their next visit. Alternately, you can speak to a GP or pharmacist about catching up on vaccination.

Dear Parents and Carers,
As referenced in the Year 8 Assessment Booklets, there are some mandatory subjects where classes are streamed to ensure that students are supported appropriately and according to their needs. These subjects are Mathematics Years 7-10, English Year 9-10, and Science Years 9-10.
An overview for each of these subjects is outlined below:
English:
Year 9
Class | Structure |
2 & 6 | Streamed top classes of equal aptitude |
1,3, 5-9 | Mixed ability classes of equal aptitude |
Year 10
Class | Structure |
1 | Top streamed class |
2 & 3 | Streamed classes of equal aptitude |
5-9 | Mixed ability classes of equal aptitude |
Mathematics:
Year 7
The Year 7 cohort study Mathematics across two lines. Classes 1- 4 are graded on one line and classes 5-9 are graded on their line.
The grading is as follows within their line:
Line 1 | Line 2 |
07MA01 | 07MA05 |
07MA02 | 07MA06 |
07MA03 | 07MA07 |
07MA04 | 07MA08 |
07MA09 |
After the completion of the Term 1 Mathematics assessment task, the Mathematics Department will spend considerable time and effort to ensure that all students have been placed in the appropriate class.
Year 8
Class | Structure |
1 | Accelerated (by invitation only) |
2 | Extension Class |
3 & 4 | Graded |

Please note that in Year 7 our students study Mathematics on two different lines. If your son was in, for example, 7MA04 last year and is now in 08MA06, this does not mean he has been “demoted”. In Year 7, Maths classes are streamed across two lines (1-4 and 5-9) however, in Year 8, the full cohort is graded across all nine classes.
Year 9
The structure for the Year 9 Mathematics classes for 2023 is as follows:

As the Term and College year are now officially finished and with some students having been away over the last couple of weeks, the Book Hire Room will be open 8am-4pm, as well as a crate placed at the Senior School Reception from Monday, 5 December until Wednesday, 7 December for any outstanding textbooks that need to be returned.
Thank you so much for all your help and wishing everyone happy holidays!
One more week left until the end of the term and end of the school year. With all exams done and dusted, assessments handed in and the summer holidays just around the corner, it’s time for all textbooks and English novels to be returned to Book Hire!
As such, if everyone can please ensure that ALL their textbooks have been returned by no later than Wednesday, 30 November, that would be greatly appreciated.
Please note that Book Hire is open Monday-Thursday, 8am-4pm, with the library as the second drop off point if needed.
A HUGE thank you to all students who have been diligent and returned their books already :)
As our Year 10 exams end, our Service Week from Monday, 21 – Thursday, 24 November is about to begin. Thank you to all our Year 10 students for taking up this wonderful service opportunity.
I look forward to seeing some of you over this time, and please make sure you thank the organisations for hosting you at the end of your experience.
Ms Maakrun and I are very proud of you, and look forward to hearing all about your experiences at the Reflection Day.
Please note, our Reflection Day will occur on Friday, 25 November. All students are to wear their PE uniform on this day.
Students are to meet in the Chapel at 8:45am. We will then move to Centennial Park for the day.
Please bring a pen, your own recess and water bottle.
A BBQ lunch and drink will be provided.
The day will finish at 3:15pm and students will be dismissed by their Heads of House from Centennial Park.
In the event of wet weather, we will hold the Reflection Day at Waverley College.
Stained Glass Window in the College Chapel
The Reflection Mass will start at 5:30pm in the Chapel. Attendance by students is COMPULSORY and we look forward to welcoming as many parents/carers as possible to join us for the Mass.
*Students MUST wear their PE uniform to the Reflection Mass and normal College rules apply to haircuts and tidy appearance.
Supper will be provided in the Centenary Quad immediately after the Mass.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the service experiences that the Year 10 cohort were privileged to participate in, and to debrief as they finish up their year.
We look forward to seeing everyone there.

From 2020, students in NSW will need to meet a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy to receive the Higher School Certificate.
Students will have a number of opportunities to meet the HSC minimum standard from Year 10 until a few years after completing their Higher School Certificate.
Students will demonstrate they have achieved the minimum standards by completing three online tests. These online tests are 45-minutes long each, and may include:
For students who did not sit the tests in the first opportunity earlier this year, there will be a re-sit towards the Yearly Examination period.
A separate communication will be sent to students, however students must bring a fully-charged laptop and a pen to the testing.
For further information, please see the HSC Minimum Standard Information on the NESA website by clicking on the button below.

If you have any queries, please contact Ms Lynsey Porter, Director of Curriculum.
With the beginning of the HSC year now having begun for Year 11/12 students (and Year 10 approaching senior study), InspirationED would like to share some free live-streamed webinars taking place on Sunday, 13 November.
Designed for both students and parents/carers in Years 10 and 11, the webinars will be delivered by qualified counsellors and senior HSC markers to address the following topics:
For those who cannot make the live sessions, we will share the recordings as on-demand videos for all registrations.
If you require any further information, please call 1300 677 336.
The time of exams is upon us, which means that the Year 10 textbooks are now due.
As we are aware, there is a tight window between the exams and Service Week, therefore if you can please ensure that all textbooks are returned to the Book Hire room or Library, before or straight after the exams, that would be greatly appreciated.
The Book Hire room is open Monday-Thursday, 8am-4pm.
Best of luck to all in the exams and thank you for all your help!
Current Parents/Carers and Students of Years 9 and 10, are invited to an Immersion Information Night on Tuesday, 15 November in the PAC, starting at 6pm, if they are interested in participating in any Immersions in 2023.
At the moment, we are currently organising immersions for Timor-Leste, Fiji and Red Earth Cape York. All information regarding costing and expected itineraries, will be discussed on the night.
These wonderful formation opportunities are a privilege to be part of, as we work to build relationships with the communities we visit. As such, places will be limited, and students will need to undergo an interview process for selection.
I look forward to having students take up these life-changing experiences and hope to see you there.
