Our Year 11 Service Learning program endeavours to provide students with meaningful volunteer experiences and opportunities, where they are able to witness first-hand the transforming power of being able to make a difference to the lives of another individual in need.

Serving the community and Social Justice is at the heart of our College, and we are pleased to again offer this to our Year 11 students this year.

All Year 11 students are required to nominate two community volunteer placements. They attend in a volunteer capacity once per week over a three-week period. Students are reminded to check the conditions required for volunteers at their organisation prior to attending, such as registering online, wearing a face mask or being fully vaccinated.

If your son does not have a placement as yet, could you please remind him to add his name to any of the organisations below, on the ‘Year 11 Sign Up Community Service’ spreadsheet which he already has access to.

This year we thank our partner organisations who are able to support our students:

Assistant Director Identity and Student Formation

Waverley College, in partnership with Edmund Rice Camps Australia, has an opportunity for students in Year 11 to volunteer for the upcoming Edmund Rice Camps taking place in the April school holidays.

Edmund Rice Camps NSW is a not-for-profit organisation that supports children, young people and families, experiencing significant and complex disadvantage. Activities centre on building relationships, affirming peers, developing soft skills, and renewing confidence and self-worth.

The camps are led by amazing young volunteers who plan and deliver an empowering experience in a safe, fun and supportive environment. With a 1:1 ratio of children to volunteers, the intensive program provides an opportunity for enrichment to participants and volunteers alike.

When Do The Camps Take Place?

There are two camps for the upcoming school holidays.

These programs fit either side of Easter, with the first week finishing on a Thursday, and the second beginning on the Tuesday after the Easter weekend.Edmund Rice Camps

What Do Students Need To Do, If They Wish To Volunteer?

Waverley College Year 11 students have the opportunity to attend the award-winning RYDA Road Safety Education workshop (COVIDSafe measures will apply). RYDA is designed for 16-17 year olds, as they begin to drive or ride in cars driven by their peers.

This workshop, which supports classroom learning as part of a broader program, provides students with the tools, habits and motivation to take action and stay safe on our roads, throughout their lives, as both drivers and passengers. Students do not need to have their license to take part in the workshop.

>>> Click here to view more information about RYDA workshops.

This is the perfect time in students’ lives to engage in this program as it addresses, in a real and practical way, the many dangers and challenges young people face on our roads.

In small groups, students work with facilitators to develop and practise personalised strategies and life skills, which will help them make positive choices, both as drivers and highly influential passengers.

The workshop combines personal stories, demonstrations and interactive activities to ensure that students are engaged during the sessions.

The Year 11 Semester 2 Report is available today for you to view and download on the Parent Lounge in TASS.

This report provides an overview of your son’s performance in Semester 2 for each subject including: A-E grades for the focus subject outcomes, at least two recommendations and commendations outlining suggested targets and areas of strength for your son, Learner Profile grades and a mark, cohort average (mean) and course ranking based on his assessment tasks in Year 11.

The weightings are as per the assessment grids that were sent at the start of the year and are available on the Waverley College website. Once you log on, select the [Academic Reports] option from the menu on the left. You will then be presented with a list of available reports. In this case it will be the Year 11 Semester Two Report where you will be able to download a PDF.

Further information about how your son has performed in his cohort is available via the Parent Lounge Analytics. You should go to the [Student Details] drop down menu and select [Academic Analytics]. Please note that this will be available approximately 24 hours after the release of these reports. This area provides a box and whiskers graph that allows parents to view the position of their son’s mark in relation to the rest of the cohort in each subject. The box and whiskers plot indicates student groupings by quartile and median.
