As we are well into Term 2, with a myriad of assignments well underway and preparations for the upcoming Trial and HSC exams already starting to take off, the senior library team have given the HSC resources section a much needed ‘face-lift’!

After looking at how to make the section more user friendly, in consultation with last year’s Year 12 students, we found that simple subject signage, instead of the traditional dewey system signs, would be easier to navigate.

Updated HSC Resource Section

Students are now able to see exactly where the study guides and past exam papers are for their selected subjects and in the case of Mathematics and English, sorted by strand as well, ensuring that they can find their chosen resources easier and quicker, with a few students saying that it is much more ‘practical’ and more ‘user friendly’ :)

Updated HSC Resource Section

We are constantly updating the section, adding new study resources regularly and we are always open to any recommendations!

We hope that this ‘revitalised’ resource section is of greater help for our senior students, with many borrowings ahead!

We will be running a series of workshops designed to enhance English and Writing skills as Year 12 students work toward the HSC. All students in Year 12 Standard and Advanced English courses are expected to attend both workshops once.

Students must register for these workshops which will be conducted in P6 on Mondays and at another time yet to be confirmed. Students are advised to check that they do not have an existing assessment task during that period. Registrations will be capped at 25 students per workshop.

Students are advised to check their email for notification of registration.

Details of the workshops are as follows:

Workshop 1 – Effective Paragraph Writing
Facilitator: Ms Mary Ryan – Head of Literacy

Time: P6 Monday (Begins Monday, 20 May 2024)

Venue: WO5

This workshop is relevant to all subjects which require the writing of long answer responses and extended responses. Focus will be on the following:

Students will be expected to bring along a sample of their own work (long answer/ extended response) which has already been marked. This can be from any subject.

Workshop 2 – Interpreting Marking Criteria in English
Facilitator: Ms Helen Barrie – Head of Academic Enrichment

Time: TBC

Venue: TBC

This workshop examines the precise elements that support an HSC marker’s decision to determine which band your essay sits in. By matching your essay with the specific criteria of each band, you will learn how to tighten and elevate your essay compositions to ensure they precisely convey your overarching thesis and establish a strong writer/reader relationship with the marker.

Students will be expected to bring along a sample of one of their English responses.

Last Friday, NESA released the HSC Examination timetables. Students in Year 12 should make sure that they use the link below to access their timetables so they can start planning their study program.

We have organised a valuable session with Dr Prue Salter towards the end of this Term to support this process. It is a hands-on session where Dr Salter will guide the students to plan their study sessions leading up to both the HSC Trial Examinations in Weeks 3-5 next Term and their final examinations.

View the HSC Written Exam Timetable HERE.

The HSC and Careers Expo excursion is on Friday, 31 May 2024 at the Royal Randwick Racecourse.

The HSC and Careers Expo is to allow students to discover and to investigate courses and careers for which they may apply for 2025.

The Expo features over 120 exhibitors, seminars on HSC subjects, tertiary courses, careers and study advice. Students should be encouraged to attend seminars and to collect booklets, brochures and information for courses or jobs in which they are interested and intend pursuing as careers.

Students will travel to and from the HSC and Careers Expo by hired buses leaving the College at 8:45am and returning by 11:55 am. The total cost will be $22.00 and will be added to the fees account.

*Entry is also valid for Saturday, 1 June 2024 from 9am-3pm. Students are encouraged to return to the Expo with their parents/carers.

This Term Elevate Education delivers high-impact workshops to our students that help to develop their study skills, motivation, and exam preparation. Over the Term, you are invited to join their parent webinar series, where you can help support your child at home by reinforcing the skills they are learning at school.

Elevate Education’s free webinars for Term 2 will take place on the following Wednesdays:

Parents learn how to help their child revise effectively, prioritise high-impact work, and build good routines in the run up to exams.

Parents learn how to help their child manage stress and anxiety during exams, and how they can maximise marks in the exam room.

Parents can ask the Elevate study skills experts any burning questions in the run-up to exams. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions you feel have been unanswered by Elevate in their webinars so far, whether that relates to your child’s study space, their motivation levels or the way they study.
