Students commencing at Waverley College in Year 7 2025 will be participating in the Academic Assessment Services (Allwell) Test. This test will run on Monday, 16 September 2024.

As part of enrolment to Waverley College, Senior School, all Year 7 students (2025) will sit the Allwell Test: an academic placement test designed to identify the full range of abilities of students.

Waverley College will use this information in a variety of ways to improve the delivery of curriculum within the College and to identify the diverse needs of students. The results will also be utilised for ability grouping of students in Mathematics and to inform the composition of base classes. Our base classes include an enrichment stream, that groups students who are identified through Allwell as gifted and/or high potential learners, into classes that are designed to offer appropriate levels of extension.

Students are assessed in a series of tasks:
Abstract Reasoning and Problem Solving
Mathematics
Reading Comprehension
Written Expression
Spelling

After the testing day you will be provided with a written report, summarising your son’s results. These results will be returned to the College a few weeks after the testing date.

How to prepare for the test?
There is no course material to study prior to the day. It is a measurement, identical to NAPLAN, to give the College a picture of how your son has progressed during Year 6. This Term Elevate Education delivers high-impact workshops to our students that help to develop their study skills, motivation, and exam preparation. Over the Term, you are invited to join their parent webinar series, where you can help support your child at home by reinforcing the skills they are learning at school.

Elevate Education’s free webinars for Term 2 will take place on the following Wednesdays:

Parents learn how to help their child revise effectively, prioritise high-impact work, and build good routines in the run up to exams.

Parents learn how to help their child manage stress and anxiety during exams, and how they can maximise marks in the exam room.

Parents can ask the Elevate study skills experts any burning questions in the run-up to exams. Dear Parents and Carers,

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between 13 – 22 March 2024

Years 5 and 7 students will sit their test in Periods 1-2 and Year 9 students will sit their test in Periods 3-4.

Students must bring their fully charged laptops and headphones to this session.

Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students do not need to be able to touch type to complete NAPLAN Online as the tests are not about keyboard skills (just as the paper test is not about handwriting skills).

Students can use the Public Demonstration Site to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.

Please click on this link 2024 NAPLAN Online – Information for parents and carers sheet for further information.

If you have any questions regarding this practice test please contact either Ms Martina Cooper (Director of Curriculum), Mr David Parnell (Head of Learning Support) or Mr Elliott McKimm (Acting Assistant Director of Curriculum – Year 5 students).

Furthermore, if parents or carers are interested in learning about strategies to support their son through NAPLAN our Head of Academic Enrichment, Ms Helen Barrie has prepared this informative video:

Dear Parents/ Carers and Students in Years 7 – 8,

Our Years 7 and 8 Enrichment Classes are stand-alone curriculum programs that seek to extend students beyond the standard curriculum who exhibit learner readiness for additional challenges. Student placement in these classes are reviewed each Semester based on academic performance, classroom application and classroom engagement.

We use the TrackOne data system to triangulate quantitative and qualitative data to identify the top 52 students of the cohort. This comprehensive identification process is only available to us at the end of each Semester, once report and assessment data is available. Until this point, we encourage parents/carers to monitor their child’s progress through assessment data, available in the TASS Parent Lounge Analytic Dashboard and on CANVAS.
