At times, all students benefit from additional teacher support to consolidate classroom content and skills, particularly in the lead up to assessments. During Term time, we have the following supports available via our co-curricular program, run by expert teachers.

Ms Martina Cooper

Director of Curriculum

Dear Parents/ Carers and Students in Years 7 – 8,

Our Years 7 and 8 Enrichment Classes are stand-alone curriculum programs that seek to extend students beyond the standard curriculum who exhibit learner readiness for additional challenges. Student placement in these classes are reviewed each Semester based on academic performance, classroom application and classroom engagement.

We use the TrackOne data system to triangulate quantitative and qualitative data to identify the top 52 students of the cohort. This comprehensive identification process is only available to us at the end of each Semester, once report and assessment data is available. Until this point, we encourage parents/carers to monitor their child’s progress through assessment data, available in the TASS Parent Lounge Analytic Dashboard and on CANVAS.

Our first round of the CSDA (Catholic Schools' Debating Association) competition against Marcellin College was highly successful, seeing wins across both junior and senior teams. Congratulations to our Year 7 team who turned up ready to debate with poise and confidence in their first Senior School debating competition.

Firstly, a big congratulations to all our Year 7 students on completing their exams! YAY!

Given that all exams are done and the end of school year is in sight, textbooks issued to you at the beginning of the year, as well as English novels that you were given throughout the school year, are now due for return.

Starting next week, during certain classes, students will be coming down to book hire for returns, therefore if you can please ensure that they bring them from home, that would be greatly appreciated.

If they are away on that scheduled day, not to fret, as they are always welcome to drop the books off to Book Hire when back, or leave their books in the marked green crates in the library or main reception.

*Book Hire opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm.

Any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out via the email provided.

Thank you for your help!

Dear Parents/Carers of Year 7 and Year 10 Students,

This is important information regarding the school based vaccinations, please read carefully.

Re: Third Vaccination Clinic for Year 7 HPV and Year 10 Meningococcal ACWY Catch Up Dose

The change to the human papillomavirus (HPV) dosing that occurred at the start of 2023 meant that students in Year 7 only required one dose of the HPV vaccination, opposed to two doses. NSW Public Health anticipated we would retain the scheduled 3rd clinic date (Tuesday, 19 September, 2023) to enable an opportunity to catch up students who may have missed out at previous clinics.

However, given the overall good uptake of vaccination this year, there are fewer students requiring catch up vaccination than anticipated, providing NSW Public Health with the opportunity to schedule shorter visits and allow us to visit more than one school per day.

Therefore, NSW Health has proposed that the original scheduled date and time for our catchup clinic is subject to change. As they are likely to be visiting more than one school per day, start times will differ from previous visits and will be included on reminder emails sent closer to the date.

To ensure the clinic runs as smoothly and effectively as possible, the Waverley College Health Centre has been provided with a list of all students who have completed their vaccinations for 2023, along with students who need a catch up dose. The parents/carers of the students who require a catch up dose have already been emailed. So far, we have vaccinated 205 out of 227 Year 7 students and 167 out of 211 Year 10 students. We have received eight Year 7 and 24 Year 10 online consents for catchup.

*If you have not received an email from the Waverley College Health Centre about catch up vaccinations OR you have not completed the online consent form for your child to receive the vaccination, then it is likely you will need to complete the online consent as soon as possible. This way NSW Health can determine whether an additional clinic is required.

Please follow this link for online consent: NSW Health Service

Vaccination

Please be reminded of the following:

The following vaccines are offered free to students at school:

Vaccination will only be provided at school if consent has been received.

To provide online consent for vaccination, parents/carers will need:

If you are experiencing problems consenting online then please contact the Health Centre for a paper consent form. You can email your request to: healthcentre@waverley.nsw.edu.au ATTN: Adele Cutbush (Registered Nurse).

Thank you.

On Monday, 19 June all Year 7 students will attend a ‘Consent Labs’ workshop during Period 3 in the PAC. Consent forms an important part of the PDHPE syllabus governed by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and is taught in the Year 7 course at Waverley College.

Consent falls under the following PDHPE Outcome: PD4-3- Investigates effective strategies to promote inclusivity, equality and respectful relationships.

The syllabus focus’ for the session will be: What skills and strategies can be used to promote inclusivity, equality and respectful relationships?

The following table shows the dates for the 2023 School Vaccination Program.

Year 7 – HPV Dose 1 + dTpa Year 10 – MenACWY Year 7 – HPV Dose 2
Wednesday, 1 March 2023 Monday, 5 June 2023 Tuesday, 19 September 2023

Please be reminded that these clinics are run by the NSW Health Local Area Public Health Service. Parents/carers are more than welcome to email the Health Centre for any questions or enquiries about the vaccination days, however we do not have access to your child’s vaccination status. This can be found at the Australian Immunisation Record (AIR).

Parents/carers can refer to the Australian Immunisation Record (AIR) to check outstanding vaccines. The parent/carer is required to notify the school if their child has completed their course elsewhere to avoid any potential vaccination errors. Parents/carers can also withdraw up to 24 hours before a clinic if they have provided consent online. If the withdrawal of consent is within 24 hours of the clinic date, the parent/carer must notify the school directly.

Please note that the first clinic of 2023 was run on 1 March. This was for Year 7 HPV 1st dose and dTpa. If your child is in Year 7 and they were not at school or missed the vaccination because you did not complete the online consent form, then they will have a chance to be vaccinated in one of the next two clinics. Please ensure you have completed the online consent form before the clinic dates. Instructions on how to do this are in the previous Nurrunga article about Vaccination Consent Online.
