There was much anticipation in the lead up to camp, as we were all hoping that COVID-19 wouldn’t cancel our plans once again. All the activities we experienced at Somerset were lots of fun, as well as being challenging. We learnt to be resilient and work as a team during the time we spent together.

We also had the opportunity to make new friendships, and got to know the other boys in our House better. We were very lucky to participate in a variety of activities including the wombat hole, crate stack, kayaking, swimming, giants ladder, bushwalking, high ropes, initiatives and base 7.

One of our favourite activities at camp was setting up the tents. We slept in the tents with a friend from our House. Who knew that the night sky away from the city could be so dark? This tested a few of us at first, but with all the activities during the day, it didn’t take long to get to sleep.

Cooking dinner and breakfast was great fun because we not only cooked for our friends, but the rest of our group as well. We enjoyed cooking and eating the sausages and pancakes. Cleaning the dishes wasn’t that bad either! It made us feel like we were growing into young men and starting to do what our parents do.

We’d like to acknowledge the students who couldn’t attend camp because of isolation, and we hope that you can join us next year. We’d also like to thank all the teachers who took time away from their own families to take good care of us, and also make the camp such good fun.

Dear Parents and Carers of Year 7 and Year 10 students,

NSW Health has been working with education authorities so that school vaccination can be offered as school-based learning returns.

In 2021, NSW Health is offering the following vaccines:

Human papillomavirus (HPV) 2 doses at least 6 months apart

and

Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (dTpa) 1 dose.

Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) 1 dose.

While the school vaccination program has been disrupted due to remote learning in some areas, vaccination clinics are being rescheduled as students return to school.

COVID-19 Safety Measures

NSW Health has implemented additional measures based on expert clinical advice to reduce the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission in school clinics, including:

What Parents/Carers Should Do

There is no need for parents/carers who have given consent for their child to receive vaccinations at school to take any action, except to:

>>> Click here to view information about COVID-19 symptoms and how COVID-19 spreads.

When Students Will be Vaccinated

Vaccinations will be offered to consented students as soon as possible as clinics are rescheduled at our College, noting that catch-up vaccination can be offered at our College at any time in 2021 or 2022 if necessary. Waverley College held its school-based vaccination program on 1 November, 2021.

You will be advised if your child cannot be vaccinated at College and recommended to arrange vaccination with your GP or another immunisation provider.

To assist all students in their return to face-to-face learning this term, Heads of Department and their teams have carefully reviewed the assessment task programs for students in Years 7-10 in accordance with NESA guidelines. Students were scheduled to sit examinations in Weeks 5-6, but this has now been adjusted with the following considerations:

Please rest assured that Heads of Department have also worked with each other to ensure a balance across the expectations for tasks due in the same week.

Students should reach out to their teachers, Heads of Department or Heads of House if they need any support with the assessments that are due.
