This Term Elevate Education delivers high-impact workshops to our students that help to develop their study skills, motivation, and exam preparation. Over the Term, you are invited to join their parent webinar series, where you can help support your child at home by reinforcing the skills they are learning at school.

Elevate Education’s free webinars for Term 2 will take place on the following Wednesdays:

Parents learn how to help their child revise effectively, prioritise high-impact work, and build good routines in the run up to exams.

Parents learn how to help their child manage stress and anxiety during exams, and how they can maximise marks in the exam room.

Parents can ask the Elevate study skills experts any burning questions in the run-up to exams. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions you feel have been unanswered by Elevate in their webinars so far, whether that relates to your child’s study space, their motivation levels or the way they study.

How to Register

Register for the series by clicking HERE.

AFX 2024

A reminder to all Year 9 parents/carers that AFX doubles as the Year 9 Camp which is a compulsory week of school. Any applications for leave require school approval.

With only three weeks to go until we leave for camp at Holsworthy Army Barracks, I would advise everyone in the Unit to go through the Equipment List this weekend and make sure you have everything you need.

Q Store will be open Wednesday, 20 March and Wednesday, 27 March at recess and lunch for those last-minute provisions.

*Please note – there will be no provision to issue any gear or equipment after Wednesday, 27 March as Q store will be closed.

Dear Parents and Carers,

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between 13 – 22 March 2024

Years 5 and 7 students will sit their test in Periods 1-2 and Year 9 students will sit their test in Periods 3-4.

Students must bring their fully charged laptops and headphones to this session.

Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students do not need to be able to touch type to complete NAPLAN Online as the tests are not about keyboard skills (just as the paper test is not about handwriting skills).

Students can use the Public Demonstration Site to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.

Please click on this link 2024 NAPLAN Online – Information for parents and carers sheet for further information.

If you have any questions regarding this practice test please contact either Ms Martina Cooper (Director of Curriculum), Mr David Parnell (Head of Learning Support) or Mr Elliott McKimm (Acting Assistant Director of Curriculum – Year 5 students).

Additional resources:

Furthermore, if parents or carers are interested in learning about strategies to support their son through NAPLAN our Head of Academic Enrichment, Ms Helen Barrie has prepared this informative video:

In line with the PDHPE curriculum, all students in Year 9 will be participating in ballroom dancing lessons and an evening of dance during Week 6 of Term 1. The dance will be conducted in association with St Clare’s College and will be led by the Joan Carmody School of Dance. The details for each event are as follows.

Monday, 4 March 2024

Ballroom dancing lessons will be conducted in the Lacey Gymnasium at Waverley College during Periods 1 and 2. All students are required to bring their PE shoes to change into (normal school uniform to be worn to school).

Year 9 Ballroom Dancing

Wednesday, 6 March 2024

Students will participate in an organised dance with St Clare’s College. The dance will begin promptly in the Lacey Gymnasium at Waverley College at 6:30pm and will conclude at 8:30pm. Students are requested to wear collared shirts, long pants and trainers.

The dance will be supervised by both Waverley and St Clare’s staff members. Students are required to get their name marked off as they enter the dance.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn the skills of ballroom dancing and to enjoy a social evening with their peers. Boys are reminded that they will be representing the College and therefore normal school expectations for behaviour and cooperation will apply.

AFX 2024

The Cadet Annual Field Exercise (AFX) doubles as the Year 9 camp and is an exciting and challenging way to extend our cadets and test the skills they have learnt over the past year. For some, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the machinations of a working military base, Holsworthy Barracks, which provides the context for our camp.

Details about AFX have been emailed to all families via the Joining Instruction (JI). Please carefully read through the information and equipment list and complete all necessary administration by 1 March 2024.

At times, all students benefit from additional teacher support to consolidate classroom content and skills, particularly in the lead up to assessments. During Term time, we have the following supports available via our co-curricular program, run by expert teachers.

Welcome back to Cadets for 2024.

This Term will be a busy and a short one as we make our final preparations for Annual Field Exercise (AFX – Cadet Camp) to be held in the last week of Term 1. This camp doubles as the Year 9 Camp for Waverley Boys and is a compulsory week of school. Our Senior Rank are working very hard in the background, planning an exciting and engaging camp that extends our recruits, as well as their own leadership skills.

All members of the Unit will receive the AFX Joining Instruction this week, along with the Equipment List and instructions for completing medical and dietary information. Please attend to the administration requirements by 1 March 2024 to ensure the best possible care for your sons.

Cadet training continues this Term after school on Friday afternoons from 3:30pm – 5:30pm. Please avoid making medical and other appointments during this time. Should your son be unable to attend due to illness or unavoidable clashes, an application for leave can be made via email to cadets@waverley.nsw.edu.au

I would ask all parents/carers and cadets to please take note of key dates below for the first half of 2024. In particular, if your son is interested in pursuing rank and leadership training, please note the Promotions Course dates in the July school holidays as attendance on course is a pre-requisite for promotion.
