From the Convenor of Public Speaking and Debating, Cassandra Hill
On Friday 3rd March, Waverley College students represented the school by participating in the CSDA Public Speaking Competition at Marist Sisters, Woolwich.
These students were: Stephen Croft, Ayden Smith, Jackson Flynn, Callum Stuart, Samuel Hall, Isaac Kopsiaftis, Conor Boyd-Boland, Angus Anthony and Achilles Zanapalis. After training twice a week for several months, the students were impressive in delivering speeches that were original and engaging. They all spoke with confidence which is a rather daunting task considering the large audience that was present.
Samuel Hall was successful in reaching the Zone Finals. This was a great feat as there were a large number of schools involved. He is to be congratulated on his intelligent approach to the topic and eloquence in delivering his speech at Mater Maria in Warriewood last Friday night.
The Public Speaking season is now complete but the growing interest in this activity, as well as Debating, indicates a wide scope of talent amongst the Waverley students.
The season will resume in Term 4 of this year and I encourage all students to consider taking part as a way to build their speaking confidence and enhance their writing skills.
