Academic Curriculum

School readiness for our Waterford pre-schoolers

Year 7 student, Cooper O'Donnell, reading to the Waterford pre-schoolers

Last week the Senior Library hosted two storytime sessions for children from the Waterford Preschool on the theme of ‘School Readiness’. This is an annual event aimed at assisting a child’s transition into ‘big school’ through the sharing of stories on the topic. This year, Mr Speed-Johnson and Ms Miller read aloud the picture books What I love About School, by Trace Moroney, Ming Goes to School, by Deirdre Sullivan and The Terrible Suitcase, by Emma Allen.

Year 7 students Patrick Hoggett and Cooper O’Donnell recalled their memories of starting their first day at school for the enraptured preschool audience. Head of College, Mr Ray Paxton, dropped by for a chat with the group, who were very excited to inform him of what schools they were going to be attending.

For anyone with a child or sibling about to start school, the Library has compiled a bibliography of excellent resources on the topic. If you would like a copy of the PDF, please email librarystaff@waverley.nsw.edu.au
