Swimming: Winners at the St Aloysius’ Invitational

Stuart Swinburn, Erwan Le Pechoux

From the Convenor of Swimming, Stephanie Floyd

Last Friday, 27 October, the Waverley Swim Team headed out to North Sydney Pool to compete in the St Aloysius Invitational. Rain was pouring all throughout the day, but by evening the sky had cleared in time for the races to begin.

2017 Swim Team at St Aloysius’ Invitational

Several of our Year 12s had not quite recovered from retreat in time to make it to the carnival, so special thanks goes to William Woodward, Robbie Beal, William Davison, Ethan King, Remy Crompton-Lamb and Daniel Lambert who all stepped in to compete in extra events at the last minute.

There were many individual victories on the night, but one event that stood out from the rest was the Senior Medley Relay, where our team captains Erwan Le Pechoux and Jonathon Schacht were joined by Stuart Swinburn and Robbie Beal to beat the closest team by half the pool length.

At the end of the night, Waverley were announced in first place – a feat that has not been achieved for decades. The entire swim team deserve to be congratulated on this outstanding achievement, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer season will bring.

Jonathon Schacht and Erwan Le Pechoux with the trophy!
