Tennis Report: 2017 Winter Round 9

From the Captain of Tennis, Kiva Gwynne

It was a tough day at the office for each of the Waverley tennis teams, who were vanquished convincingly by the merciless Trinity Grammar boys in the penultimate round of the winter season.

The 1sts through to 4ths teams were unable to get the win on Saturday, with each team being defeated 8 sets to 0. The closest we got to taking a single set off Trinity Grammar was with Axel Montesinos and Luke Ryan in their 2nds doubles match, as they were edged 5 games to 7.

The 10A’s were ever so close to winning a set, as Oliver Ruse and Marko Dundovic both lost in gripping tiebreaks. Both the 10As and Bs were unlucky to go down 0 sets to 6.

Highlighting the tennis fixtures for the day were the year 7Bs, who put in a great effort to get a hold of 2 sets in a 2 sets to 4 loss. A special mention goes out to Toby Ryan, who was able to win in both his singles match and doubles match with Sam Rothwell. He displayed some brilliant tennis in his 6-0 annihilation of his opponent, all while coming back from an injury that has hampered him since the beginning of the season.

Coming into the concluding round of the season, it seems that the Year 7s are the ones to watch as they look to upset the boys from Knox. The rest of the teams are back to the drawing board, and are looking to end the season on a high note.
