USYD: Year 10 Information Evening

30 March, 3 May and 11 May at the University of Sydney, Camperdown Campus

The evenings are designed to help Year 10 students (and their parents) choose subjects for the HSC and navigate through the process of applying to university.

Topics include: ATAR, scaling, prerequisites and assumed knowledge, subject selections, career pathways and the student journey to university.


UTS Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc) Co-op Scholarship – Information Evening

UNSW Built Environment Parent and Student Info Night

21st March 2017, 6:30 – 8:30pm, Keith Burrows Theatre, UNSW Kensington

The information evening is aimed at high school students and their families and those who have already completed the HSC, are studying at TAFE, in a gap year, bridging course or already commenced work. Information will be provided on admission options, career pathways and an opportunity to speak to current students.


UNSW Year 12 Medicine Information Evening

23rd March, 6:30 – 8:30pm, Sir John Clancy Auditorium, UNSW Kensington

During the evening, information will be provided on the UNSW Medicine degree, regarding application, admissions and tips for the UMAT exam


UNSW Science & Engineering Student Parent Evening

21st March, 5:30 – 8:30pm, John Niland Scientia Building, UNSW Kensington

The evening will provide information on the degrees offered in Science and Engineering. It is directed at prospective students and their parents. Attendees will be able to speak one-on-one to academic staff about the degrees and also life on campus.


Global leadership entry program

Applications open 8th May 2017

The program is open to students completing the HSC or SSC or the IB, who are active in the community and achieve good results in school. To register your interest for the program, complete the online form on the website.


Scholarship opportunities for future teachers

Notre Dame Early Offer Program

Early offer program will open about middle to end March

The categories students can apply for include commitment to community and/or church, commitment to and excellence in cultural pursuits, commitment to and excellence in sporting achievements or academic excellence.


University of Canberra: Schools Recommendation Scheme

Students are able to secure an offer to the University of Canberra if their school recommends them for admission. This scheme is available to domestic students completing a year 12 program

Professional Cadetships

Applications for the Business Cadetships Program run by Professional Cadetships Australia close on 10 May. Year 12 students apply online at for cadetship placement at UBS.

Students who intend to apply are reminded that both their Application Form and School Assessment are due on 10 May, so it is advisable to speak to your Careers Adviser well in advance about your School Assessment.

Applications for the Engineering & Technology Cadetships (ETCAD) Program open on 26 April and close on the 16th June.

UMAT 2017 Registrations Open Soon

Registrations for UMAT 2017 open early December 2016 and close 2nd June 2017.

The test takes place nationally on the 26th July 2017.

UMAT is a test that is used specifically to assist with the selection of students into the medicine, dentistry and health science degree programs at undergraduate level at the universities listed on this website.

The U.S. Consulate General in Sydney has an EducationUSA Centre, and students, parents and career advisers can make appointments to visit the centre.


Changes to Police Officer Recruitment Process

The main changes to the recruitment process include no minimum academic requirement, introduction of a University Certificate in Workforce Essentials, the entrance exam is now known as the Police Entrance Exam, copies of transcripts and other mandatory documents need to be certified by a Justice of the Peace, online application via JobsNSW and a case office will contact applicants once applications are received.

Australian Defence Force 2018 Gap Year Intake

Applications for a 2018 gap year open in March 2017.

The ADF Gap Year program provides an opportunity for young Australians who have finished year 12 or equivalent, aged between 17 and 24, to experience military training & lifestyle whilst gaining new skills over a paid Gap Year.

Australian Defence Force Academy Education Award

This award is presented to Year 12 students in recognition of leadership potential and academic and sporting achievements achieved during Year 11. The award includes a tablet device and certificate for you, along with a plaque for your school. There are up to 50 awards available on behalf of the Navy, Army and Air Force, which will be presented to suitable applicants who have applied for entry to the Australia Defence Force Academy (ADFA). Current Year 11 students have until 28 February 2017 to apply for this award. The award is unbonded. That means you do not have to accept an offer to attend ADFA.



Australian Defence Force Academy applications are now open for 2018. While this may seem like a long way away, the application process can take 3–12 months depending on your circumstances. To avoid having to do the application when you are busy with year 12 exams, think about starting your application soon!


University of Sydney: Introduction of Mathematics Prerequisite

The University of Sydney will introduce a mathematics prerequisite for some courses in 2019. The courses that will have the prerequisite are listed in UAC’s 2016 Year 10 guide.


University of Sydney HSC Preparation Courses
The courses run at various times throughout the year. There are preparation courses for biology, chemistry, economics, exam preparation, legal studies, music, visual arts, business, design and technology, English, history, mathematics and physics. NIDA School Holiday Classes

8th to 23rd April 2017, Sydney

NIDA is running school holiday classes over the Autumn break, with options for young people from years 7 to 12. If courses are booked earlier than 4 weeks before the start of classes, then an early bird discount of 10% applies.

HSC Syllabus Update

The HSC curriculum is being updated, with changes set to be implemented from 2019. The new syllabus with have a greater focus on learning in depth rather than a breadth of topics.


ATO Tax File Number Applications

A tax file number is a unique nine-digit number issued to individuals and organisations to help administer tax and other Australian Government systems. Students need a TFN before they can start any type of paid work.

Young Endeavour
