From the Timor Leste Immersion Program Leader, Brad Thompson
Waverley College is pleased to confirm the participants for our 2017 Immersion to Timor-Leste.
Pictured is the group of students who will travel to Timor-Leste from 6 to 15 August, 2017. After a formal application process in which students detailed their interest in the Immersion and outlined their personal qualities, the final group was selected by a panel of College staff.
Students participating in the Immersion will spend time interacting with the young people of the Ermera District of Timor-Leste. Students will be developing connections, building friendships, participating in community projects and learning about subsistence economies.
There will be opportunities to observe and support the work of the Christian Brothers in Timor-Leste, and visit organisations, both Government and Non-Government working in Timor-Leste. A visit to the Australian Embassy is also undertaken. Students will gain an understanding of our neighbouring country’s recent past through visits to places of geopolitical and historical significance.
Along with the students undertaking the 2017 Timor-Leste Immersion, we wish to welcome Mr.Luke Barbour to the role of Immersion program leader, alongside Ms Kaitlyn Downey and Mr Brad Thompson. Luke has led the College Walgett Immersion in the past and brings valuable experience, both personal and professional, to the Timor-Leste Immersion.
Miss Cathy O’Sullivan is standing down from the Timor-Leste Immersion (at least for 2017) after several years of dedicated and valued engagement in the initial years of the program.
