Co-curriculum

A good showing at the CAS Swimming and Diving Championships

CAS Swimming Championship, 2017

From the Director of Co-curriculum, Stephen O’Donnell

A huge thank you and congratulations to our swimming and diving squads for their tremendous efforts on Thursday night last week. Waverley finished fourth and we scored more points than we have in a long time.

The support from the three year groups in attendance was also terrific and I want to thank the Year 12s and prefects in attendance for their great work with this. I also want to thank all of the staff and Heads of House for their assistance with supervision for what was one of the best CAS swimming events I have seen.

The stand out swimmer for Waverley was Stuart Swinburn but we also had many other great results. Well done to Ms Floyd and Ms Knowles as well as all of our other coaches for their hard work which culminated in a very good performance from Waverley. We now need to have Barker’s third place in our sights and keep striving to improve further on these results.

Hopefully this weekend we will get some winter trials in with the weather currently making selections and training difficult. Our 1sts and squads of potential A’s Football and Rugby will be playing blitz games this Saturday at various venues. Most other sports and teams have internal trials at Queens Park or at school.

Next weekend we will be playing Riverview at home with our 14’s and 15’s Rugby and Football away.

Our AFL teams will also be playing in a gala day on April 1st.

Please also note that no team selections are final and we are still in a trial phase. Coaches and selectors and doing their best in tough and disrupted conditions with their team selections and will make necessary adjustments as the season progresses. I also want to highlight the CAS By-Laws for all players, coaches and spectators and remind our community that this is just school sport and we are not playing for ‘sheep stations’.

Well done also to our 1st XI who won their first round of the CIS Independent Cup against Covenant Christian College 6-0. They will now need to need to travel to Shellharbour in the last week of term to play their next match.

Good luck to all teams and sports this weekend and ‘Go the Waves!’
