From the Tevlin Wellbeing Prefects, Fred Watkins and Oliver Small
On a cold morning in June, Waverley College gathered at E.S. Marks Athletics Field for the Annual Athletics Carnival. As the buses pulled into the carpark, the sea of yellow spilled out into the stands, this was a sign for a great day ahead. The involvement of all boys was exceptional, they really expressed our “have a go” mentality and participated in all events especially the Year 5-6s boys; they were outstanding. It’s not all about winning but working as a team.
However, there were some outstanding individual performances and achievements made during the carnival such as, Dane Towns breaking his father’s 34 year old U14 high jump record with a leap of 1.80m. You could say he jumped higher than the average house… however houses can’t jump! Another great achievement for Tevlin; we had more 100m championship finalists than any other house! These finalists included Jake Weinstein, Isaac Kopsiaftis, Dane Towns, Ronan Schocher, Zac Smith-Karm, Chris Mills, Alex Talbot and Oliver Tamsett. This shows the participation strategy that Tevlin house adopted particularly well this year. The support and chants throughout the day were great to see, giving us the extra boost we needed to win some events.
The final chant off was a blast, we shouted and yelled our hearts out and were rewarded with a 3rd place. This and a 3rd place in the Tug’ O’ War gave us the crucial points we needed to become victorious over the other houses. All year 12 boys turned up the Tevlin spirit and led from the front, we have maintained the great Tevlin tradition of giving our all. Well done to all Tevlin boys on a fun and rewarding day out!
