Creative writing workshop with author, Will Kostakis

Will Kostakis

From the Head of English, Lynsey Porter

This week it was a great privilege to welcome published author, Will Kostakis, to Waverley College to deliver a workshop on creative writing with our Year 12 Extension English students. Creative writing is an examinable component of all HSC English courses, particularly Extension, and is one of the most challenging skills to develop as a student. Will’s often humorous discussion of his own experiences as an English Extension student certainly resonated with our current cohort and his advice was practical and achievable.

The students were certainly in good company. At their age, Will had secured his own book deal, having won the Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer of the Year for a collection of short stories. His first novel, Loathing Lola, was released when he was nineteen and his second, The First Third, won the 2014 Gold Inky Award. The Sidekicks is Will’s third novel for young adults and all three are available for loan in the Waverley College Library.
