Waverley Jazz Band

From the Music Faculty

Jazz Band in the NSW School Band Festival Sunday 28 May

The Waverley College Jazz Band conducted by Ms Jenna Cave performed at the The Frank Coughlan Premier Big Band Event, part of the NSW School Band Festival, last Sunday at the Australian Institute of Music.

The band played a repertoire of four items including Joe Zawinul’s Mercy, Mercy, Mercy; the ballad, Solitaire’ the jazz standard, Stompin at the Savoy; and our conductor’s own composition, Twerkin’ It Nyab Style. Five students were featured soloists in our performances, namely Riley Addison, alto sax; Sam Tsaousis, trumpet; Angus McPherson, tenor saxophone; Dominic Augoustis, guitar; and Simon Finnegan, piano.

In the final item the band was joined by the soloist on Baritone saxophone, Denis DiBlasio. Denis was the baritone sax in the Big Band of Maynard Ferguson. A composer and arranger as well as a soloist, he currently conducts the jazz program at Rowan University, New Jersey, and is also director of the Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz Studies in Rowan.

2017 CAS Ecumenical Service

Members of the Waverley College choir attended the 2017 CAS Ecumenical Service at St Aloysius’ College, Milson’s Point, on Monday evening.  Thank you to Anne Fahy for the tireless work that she did in preparing the choir for this celebration.   It was a wonderful service with a great combined choir.
