Wellbeing

Men’s Health Week and Positive Schools

From the Director of Wellbeing, Matthew Porter

Men’s Health Week

During Men’s Health Week Waverley College will be running a series of activities aimed at improving and maintaining the health and wellbeing of our young men and boys and their families. This is a great opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about the factors that keep us healthy in both body and mind.

Next week we will offer Pilates, Fitness training and a Healthy Morning Tea for staff.

For fathers and sons we have the Sunrise Pilates at Bondi Beach, 7:00am Thursday morning.  For more information, click HERE

Students will hear from Guest Speakers at the House Assembly from Beyond Blue; Tevlin House have a breakfast; mindfulness, meditation and mindfulness colouring, fitness training and fitness challenges will be available for students together with lunchtime games, activities and competitions.

Early identification and intervention are essential in protecting our wellbeing and promoting mental health and wellness. Trust your instincts and if something doesn’t seem quite right, or if you are concerned about someone then ask : RUOK???

For those who may be experiencing their own challenges and difficulties, always remember that is OK to not be OK and to seek help or reach out to a family member, friend, Wellbeing Mentor, Head of House, Student Counsellor or myself.

Please see the links below for tips on how to begin the conversation about mental health and wellbeing with your son.

Positive Schools Conference

On Thursday and Friday I was lucky enough to attend the Positive Schools Conference along with Mr Greg Harris, Mr John McCoy, Mr James Horrocks, Mr Scott Coleman and Ms Olivia Kite. This conference provided a unique opportunity to hear from industry leading professionals and experts from across the globe in the areas of staff and student health and wellbeing.

This experience will enable us to reflect on our Wellbeing process and practices at the College and continue to refine what we do in providing the best possible educational experience for our boys.

Team building, problem solving and character strengths in action
