The weather had another significant impact on the first full round of fixtures last weekend and has been an unfortunate theme this term. We were still able to play a few fixtures with the 1sts and 2nds Football and the 16A’s, 2nds and 1st XV Rugby playing their fixtures against St Aloysius. The 2nd XI Football result of 7-1 was certainly a highlight of the weekend.
Congratulations to Evan Rowbowtham (Year 9) who continues to perform at the highest levels with his victory in the NSWCIS Cross Country trials. We wish him well for the next round of racing at the State Championships.
We have a number of our Debating teams that have progressed through to the final rounds of the CSDA finals this week, as well as a couple automatically qualifying for the quarter finals next week. We wish these teams well! Please come and support the Year 12 group on Friday at 5.30pm in the College Library.
I had the pleasure of attending the 2024 Cadet Unit passing out parade and Dining In Night on Sunday. Congratulations to all award winners and the graduating cohort of the unit, and a huge congratulations to Maj. Julie-Anne De Kantzow, Lt. Jessica Stanley and all of the Cadet Unit staff on an excellent event.
We have a big round of fixtures this weekend against local rivals Cranbrook. This is always a competitive round but I also want to remind all students, parents and spectators of the CAS and College Codes of Conduct and expectations around behaviour, respect and correct attire. We would expect any member of our community in attendance at any fixture on the weekend to represent the College to the highest standards.

This coming weekend we have our first full round of CAS fixtures against St Aloysius away. This is also a timely reminder of the CAS Codes of Conduct for players, parents and spectators. Respect for officials, the opposition and all involved in providing a positive experience for schoolboy sport is essential.
We have had some excellent results in CSDA Debating with a number of team now in the finals rounds from next week.
Despite no school sport last weekend, we have had many students represent the College at high levels. We also a number of students representing their clubs at the State Age Rugby championships.
Congratulations to all of these students and their clubs, especially those Waverley students playing for Randwick in U16 and U18 teams that won their age divisions.
Charlie Grant was co-captain of the Randwick U16 successful side.
The Randwick U13 side also finished a very respectable 3rd and was full of Waverley students playing.
We also had a number of students selected for high levels of representative sport over the past week. Congratulations to the following students:
NSW All Schools AFL U15:
NSWCIS U19 Football:

We also have a number of students and families that will be attending the NSW Schools Snow sports events in the upcoming holidays and a huge thank you again to Ms Paula McCabe for all of her hard work in organising this event for our students.

In very trying conditions last weekend we held our annual Indigenous Round with Rugby against Oakhill at Queens Park and AFL, Football, Tennis, Cross country and Volleyball away. A huge thank you to all of the staff, parents and students for their amazing support of this vitally important event and especially to Mr Kevin Heath for his organisation of such a special ceremony. The resilience displayed by all of our students and coaches in the weather on the weekend was extraordinary and big thank you also to the parents for your support of the round and in the weather.
Last week we also had 3 students competing at the NSW All Schools Swimming. Well done to Eamon Jeffs, Hugo Bindner (2 silver medals) and Jack Kerves (1 bronze). Well done also to Ms Nicola Silsby who was the manager of the NSWCIS team competing.

This weekend we are hosting Oakhill in Rugby for the 2024 Indigenous Round. All of our 1sts teams will be in their Indigenous kit and this includes those teams that are playing away against Trinity. We are inviting our wider College community to the fixtures and ceremony and Queens Park prior to the 1st XV match. Just a reminder that all students in attendance need to be in full Waverley sports attire or full winter uniform. The following weekend of 8 June is a sport free weekend.
Last weekend we had a big round of Rugby and Football against St Augustine’s and Knox. Our AFL sides also had a number of strong wins against Newington, including an impressive victory in the 1sts. Our 1sts Volleyball continued on their winning way and have a top of the table clash against Trinity this weekend.
Next week we have our winter sports photos and all students will need to bring their playing attire (no boots) for these photos in the Gymnasium. Please see schedule – Winter Sports Photos Carnival 2024
Next Friday 7 June is also the College’s Years 5-12 House Athletics Carnival at ES Marks. Please note that there are no canteen facilities at the venue and all students will be required to bring their own lunch. Students are also not permitted to leave the venue to get lunch or order food delivery services. Please see the letter in the link for all students and parents/carers that includes the schedule of events – House Athletics 2024
Well done to the following students on their recent selection in the CAS Football teams:

Opens: Brad Kalpouzanis
Good luck to all teams and activities this weekend.

Waverley College hosted St Stanislaus and All Saints from Bathurst last Saturday in the Rugby and winter certainly arrived with cold, rainy and blustery conditions. A huge thank you to all of the parents/carers who assisted in the canteen and on the BBQ with all teams playing home rugby fixtures.
There were some impressive results, including Jamie Granger’s match-winning try for the 3rd XV to beat All Saints 1st XV on the final siren.
Our 1st XI Football had a hard fought win up at Hornsby and 1sts Volleyball are now 3 from 3 in Division 1.
We have a number of teams and fixtures playing away this coming weekend. Please allow for enough travel time for the busy Saturday traffic to arrive 30 minutes prior as a minimum to warm up effectively.
I would also like to remind all students who come and support their peers or 1sts teams that full Waverley College playing attire or winter uniform is the only acceptable gear to wear.
A huge congratulations to James Peate on qualifying for the Rostrum Voice of Youth NSW State Finals at Shore on 22 June from 2pm. James would love to have students willing to attend to support in full winter uniform. The competition concludes around 6pm. We wish James well for his preparations and the tournament.
Just a reminder to our Chess and Debating teams that they still are required to attend their fixtures this Friday evening despite the early finish due to May Procession.
Good luck to all activities this weekend!

Last week, using our Old Boy and Parents network, we hosted our annual Legends Coaching Week. This provided opportunities for our students to learn from experienced and professional players and coaches. These sessions allowed students to receive feedback on individual and team skills whilst gaining an insight into the requirements of a professional athlete.
We are appreciative of the time and support our Old Boys and parents/carers were able to give us and look forward to continue strengthening these relationships in the future. Thank you to the following people:

The weather has continued to impact the co-curricular program over the past couple of weeks. Luckily, we were still able to get some fixtures in last weekend. The 1sts and 2nds Rugby, along with the U14s and 15s played some games on Saturday at Riverview. The 1st XV were able to secure a famous and gutsy win at Riverview for the first time in many years.
Our Debating teams on Friday night also performed extremely well. Thank you to all of the students, parents/carers and staff who braved the conditions to support those fixtures last weekend.
We also had some students competing at the NSWCIS Swimming and Diving championships last week and a huge thank you to Ms Nicola Silsby for supporting all CAS competitors. Well done to all competitors, but especially Jack Kerves and Hugo Binder who have now qualified for NSW All Schools in Swimming and Darcy Dawson in Diving.
We also had a number of students trial and be selected in the NSWCIS AFL sides last week. Well done to Dashiel Delany-Fielding, Hayden McAusland and Henry Lamond in the U15s side.
Well done also to Fred Carmody on his recent performances at the Australian SLS titles that included a gold medal in U17 surfing and a bronze in the opens competitions.
Congratulations also to Cameron Reed who participated in the CIS U15 Boys Hockey trial earlier this week. Despite having turning 13 only a couple of months ago, Cameron was selected to represent the CIS this year. Well done!
We have a huge round of sport this weekend with Rugby hosting all teams at Queens Park against St Stanislaus and All Saints from Bathurst. We need as many parents/carers as possible assisting the Rugby Supporters’ Group on the BBQ and in the canteen. If you can spare an hour before or after your son’s match, we would be extremely grateful please.

Well done to all students, staff, coaches and parents/carers on a strong start to the Term 2 winter co-curricular season. The weather has been disruptive, however, students have demonstrated a good resilience and enthusiasm to want to represent Waverley last weekend. We did have some fixtures washed out including a full round of AFL but also had some strong performances in Debating, Football and Rugby across a number of age groups.
Team selections are still ongoing and we ask that parents/carers and students be patient with the coaches and staff. The weather and parent teacher interviews have meant we are still working to finalise teams.
Last Thursday we recognised our winter co-curricular leaders and 1sts teams. Congratulations to the students HERE.
We also had a number of staff, students and parents/carers sacrifice a lot of time and effort over the recent holidays to ensure Waverley students continue to be able to represent at the highest levels. A snap shot of some of these include:
Hopefully the weather will hold out for this weekend and good luck to all students and teams.

Whilst the majority of our students were enjoying some rest over the first week of holidays, 10 of Waverley’s finest Track and Field athletes travelled to Adelaide for the Australian Championships.
The culmination of a long and arduous season is a true test of every athlete’s mental and physical capacity. Waverley was well represented with 10 athletes spanning from the U13 to U20 age groups. Our boys competed over various disciplines with many resulting in personal bests or their highest placing at a national championship.
Highlights included a historic treble by Evan Rowbotham in winning the U15 800m, 1500m and 3000m events. Vaidas Levi secured a bronze medal in the U15 Javelin and George Lambousis narrowly missed a bronze medal by 0.01s in the U13 100m. Congratulations to James Peate on his 4th place finish in the finals of the Sydney Catholic Schools Public Speaking. Waverley is really proud of you.
Last Thursday our Years 8, 11 and a number of Year 12 students attended the CAS Swimming and Diving Championships to support the Waverley squads. The support and behaviour of our students was exemplary and a huge thank you to the students, staff and parents/carers that attended to support on the night.
Waverley finished 5th in Swimming and 4th in the Diving. Special mention to James Wynyard and Darcy Dawson in the Diving who have both qualified for CIS as well as giving Waverley the most points we have ever secured at the Diving Championships.
Hugo Binder’s win in the U12 Freestyle was one of the performances on the night, as well as the excellent performances of our two Year 5 swimmers Kai Hess and Jack Forde.
We also held our Basketball, Cricket and Aquatics presentation evenings over the past week and a huge thank you to the various Supporters’ Groups and parents/carers for their efforts in making these evenings happen.
Well done also to all of those award winners. We will recognise all award winners in our summer co-curricular awards assembly on Thursday, 4 April 2024 and parents/carers are welcome to attend.

In 2024 Waverley College is partnering with Guard Up Mouthguards as our provider from the commencement of the Winter Season. These mouthguards are worn by notable names in both professional Rugby, AFL, and US College Football.
The mouthguards are fitted using laser scanning technology and are 3D printed to ensure an exact and customisable fit, and can be produced and replaced in a much shorter timeframe and at a much lower cost when compared with a traditional fitted mouthguard. Those with Private Health cover may also receive a rebate on their purchase, dependent on their cover.
If you are interested in having a mouthguard fitted for the upcoming Winter Season, please complete the Expression of Interest form HERE.
Numbers will be finalised on Wednesday, 27 March 2024.
