Respect for Women forum

Last Friday I accompanied a group of 12 Year 10 students to St Vincent’s College, Potts Point, who hosted us in a discussion and forum on ‘Respect For Women’. The students were outstanding representatives of Waverley College and I was both proud and privileged to experience their positive and forthright approach.

The discussion points ranged across stereotypical images of women, expectations at parties, attire, women in the media and also the participants’ own personal experiences. Our students will be sharing this information with their Houses and in Mentor groups.

The work by both schools to establish this open and important discussion is something we are very keen to develop and we will have an opportunity later in the year for further work on this.

Well done also to Scott Coleman as CAS 1sts coach and also Kyle Newbury as U16 CAS coach.

Both Paul Cornish and John McCoy have also had a lot to do with the mentoring of these rugby players and we wish them well in their selections later this week.

House Athletics Carnival

We had a very successful House Athletics carnival last week.  Well done to all students and staff; in particular Mr Greg Elliott, Ms Kaitlyn Downey, Ms Stephanie Floyd, Ms Stephanie Boyce and our very obliging Maintenance team for their great efforts on the day.

Congratulations, Josh Conacher-Smith

Earlier this month Year 9 student Josh Conacher-Smith became Waverley’s first representative gymnast in over 90 years.

Josh competed for Waverley in the CSSA (Christian Schools Sporting Association) State Competition at Rooty Hill having qualified at the 2016 NSW State Championships.

Josh came away from the competition with 1st place on high bar with a score of 9.91 out of 10.00 as well as competing in 5 other events. We thank Bunnerong Gymnastics for letting one of their senior coaches assist Josh at the competition.

Good luck once again to all of our CAS representative players. I hope all of our families enjoy a well-earned break.
