Will Cooley places second in State Sailing Championship

On the weekend of 27-28 November, Year 8 student Will Cooley representing the NSW State Sailing Youth Team, competed in the NSW/ACT Laser State Championship on Botany Bay.

A large fleet of 102 Lasers competed across three categories, with Will competing in the Laser 4.7 Youth Division.

Strong 22 knot winds on Saturday and solid 14 knot winds on Sunday provided mixed and challenging sailing conditions for the competitors.

After a six race series (three on each day), Will finished second in a very competitive youth fleet.

Next regatta for Will is the World Sailing event ‘Sail Melbourne’ on 6-11 December. Sail Melbourne is the last round-robin leg of the World Sailing series which attracts many Olympic and international sailors. While Will won’t be racing Olympians just yet, he’s looking forward to meeting them, especially Australia’s Olympic gold medalist Tom Burton.
