Topics covered during the tutorials have been included on the spreadsheet. These tutorials have proven extremely valuable and, while not compulsory, are strongly encouraged.
It is important that we know attendance numbers so teachers can prepare accordingly. To that end, the expectation is that students who register for the tutorial, attend. Rolls will be taken to assist us to manage the program. The cut-off time to register for morning tutorials is 3pm the day prior.
Ms Lauren Ryan has emailed the registration sheet to students to register their attendance at the tutorials.
Please bring any equipment you may need for the tutorial (e.g. textbooks, notepads, pens etc.).
Students may wear casual attire and are to enter the school through Reception on Birrell Street.

The course Cert II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations), requires students to complete 12 Service Periods during Years 11 and 12. These enable students to demonstrate and/or work towards their competencies in areas such as safe work practices, working hygienically, working effectively together, as well as practical skills such as correct knife handling, and cooking food using various methods of cookery, such as deep frying, boiling and baking.
The students in Year 11 and 12 Hospitality completed their service period on Thursday, 23 June, which leads to achieving some competencies within the course. As part of the service period, they made nutritious sandwiches and mouthwatering sweet treats for all staff.
The students worked hard to produce over 130 sandwiches that catered for a variety of dietary requirements, and a staggering 300 chocolate chip cookies and 50 brownies that seemed to disappear quite quickly! The sandwiches were a huge success amongst staff and the quality rivalled some of the popular local cafés and eateries.
We are very proud of all the students who participated in the service day, and extend a big thank you to all students and their teachers Mr Mark Neale, Ms Bev McCarthy and Ms Anne O’Loughlin, for all of their hard work.

Waverley College travelled to Wahroonga for the 2nd round of the CAS competition, for an important match against Knox Grammar School. Both sides remained undefeated going into the final fixture of Term 2, and the pre-season form indicated that there would not be too much separating both sides.
The conditions were perfect for rugby, with a dry pitch and not too much of a breeze to report. Waverley set their intentions early by keeping the ball in hand, and rumbling the ball forward. Knox did well to pull down barnstorming runs from Ky Pule and AJ Preketes.
Knox managed to work their way out of trouble, and secured some good field position. This eventually led to a try to the home side. Unfortunately, Ben Finegan was forced off the field to the blood bin, and the Double V were under early pressure.
The Waves responded well, and worked hard to get into a point-scoring position. A strong run from Captain Preketes had Waverley camped right on the goal line, and Ethan Halatokoua used his strength to crash over the line. Soon after, a cheeky kick behind the line into space from Tom Martin, followed by a charge down by Charles Alexander, had Noah Tofaeono in for another Waverley try.
It did not take long for Knox to come back, as they found space down the left edge of the field. Waverley looked like regaining the lead as the Knox defensive line began to tire. However, the Knox winger managed to pluck the ball from the air, and race away to score a 100m intercept try.
The match became a great battle as both teams tried and tried to find a way to score. Waverley elected to take the three points on offer, as half-time approached. Both teams looked exhausted, but there was a feeling in the air that this encounter would take the full 70 minutes to decide who the winner would be. At the break, Knox were in front 19-17.
Knox extended their lead early in the second half, finding a weakness in the Waverley defensive line down the right-side edge of the field. A dashing run from Jonti Morshead-Feildel set up a try for his centre partner, Solomon Tuqiri, to put the Double V one try away to regaining the lead.
The kicking game from both teams became a focus as the match progressed into the second half. Some precision kicking from Caleb Sinclair-Harris and Dane Towns had the Waves back into a scoring position. Tom Martin was able to find a gap just behind the ruck to take Waverley to the front. The score now 29 to 26 in favour of the visitors. Plenty of time remained on the clock.
Waverley went close to scoring again through young Kahu Capper on the wing, however, he was called offside. This penalty put Knox back into a position they wanted to be in. Waverley managed to get the ball back, but as they looked to exit, Knox charged down the clearing kick and the ball fell into the hands of the Knox Hooker, who scored under the posts.
As the conditions became darker and darker, the field lights at Knox 1 came on. Knox held the lead, but Waverley threw everything at the home side. I think a kitchen sink was spotted at one point! In the end, it was the side from Wahroonga who held the 4-point margin to win the match. Congratulations to both sides on an entertaining encounter.
The CAS competition now goes on hold for the school holidays. Waverley will meet local rivals, Cranbrook, in Round 3 of the CAS competition. While the Double V might feel disappointed, the Henry Plume Shield is still within reach.
The Waverley vs Knox fixture was a terrific and very evenly-contested round of rugby. On the day, from the 17 matches played, both schools had eight wins, with the 14Bs match drawn, 5-5.
The Opens tried hard, but just went down in some tight matches. The 16As and 16Cs played matches which were enjoyable to watch, with the Bs just falling short of the win. The 15As had a gutsy three-point win, which was courageous, with a number of players out injured. The 14Cs were the stand outs in the 14s age group with a dominant victory, and the 13s teams again did extremely well.
As we come to the end of Term 3, I thank all our parents, carers and friends who have helped create a welcoming atmosphere at Queens Park. Thank you for the numerous hours you have spent volunteering on the BBQ and Canteen.
I would like to highlight the efforts of Year 6 student and Prep 1st star, Charlie Gibbins, who kindly donated two hours of his own time to help out on the canteen. We very much appreciate your efforts and dedication to your school on and off the field!
Should any parents, carers or friends be happy to assist at any point for the final three matches of the season next term, we would love your help. Please register on the online roster below:

Please note, that training will recommence in Term 3 on Tuesday, 19 July (ALL 16s and Opens teams) and Wednesday, 20 July (ALL 13s, 14s and 15s teams). These will be important training sessions in the lead into the Cranbrook fixture on Saturday, 23 July.
Our 13s, 16s and Opens will play at Cranbrook fields, with the 14s and 15s playing at Queens Park.
I wish all members of the Waverley College community the very best for the upcoming holiday break. We look forward to seeing you back in Term 3!

During Term 2, selected Basketball students participated in the Winter Basketball program. This included a 3 x 3 style of training coached by Old Boy Mr Ryan Abbott, 1st V coach Mr Matthew Johnston, and Sydney 3 x 3 representative Mr Michael Golding.
The squad has undertaken an intensive training regime, and on Friday they were able to showcase their skills as they competed in a friendly tournament against The Scots College. It was held in the Br Lacey Gymnasium with music and action – packed games being played at every angle.
The senior tournament consisted of two pools with two Waverley teams and two Scots teams in each pool. Throughout the night, games were played with teams going at each other. After each team had played everyone in their pool, semi-finals saw the final four teams being Waverley players.
The Grand Final saw a Year 11 team facing off against a Year 10 team. The game went down to the wire, ending when Aren Yaghoubian drained a step-back three for the victorious win. The crowd then came rushing over surrounding him to celebrate his team’s victory, which included James Dyson Merwe, Aiden Pascoe and Eden Byrd.
The junior tournament had the same structure as the senior, with two pools, both with two Waverley and two Scots teams. These fast, intense games were fought hard, with every team winning and losing. When it came to the semi-final, Waverley once again came out on top, with three Waverley teams and one Scots team making it.
Once again, the Grand Final had two Waverley teams facing off against each other. One team consisted of a mix of year groups including two Year 10s, while the other team comprised four Year 8s. The junior Grand Final was another upset, with the younger underdog team beating the other Waverley team in a highly contested game. Congratulations to the following players for winning the junior tournament: Nico Palacio, Isaac Buchanan, Jonte Garvey and Noah Thomas.
Final thanks to Mr Matthew Johnston, Mr Michael Golding and Mr Anthony Gibbs and for help preparing this brilliant event. It was a great night for the boys.

Last Friday, the Winter Basketball program hosted its first 3 X 3 round robin tournament against The Scots College. The players were split into teams and competed against both the Scots teams and each other. The competition included quarter-finals, semi-finals and a Grand Final at the end. Of the four pools, Waverley won two, and went into the quarter-finals as favourites.
During the quarter-finals, Waverley teams played outstandingly, managing to win every game against their Scots opponents, leaving just Waverley teams playing in the semi-finals. Some amazing performances from the younger groups of players in both the senior and junior competitions, saw both ending in upset wins against the favourites on the night, demonstrating that selflessness and playing for each other at the offensive and defensive ends, is critical to any team’s success, regardless of the talent of the group.
Thank you to Mr Golding and Mr Abbott for helping with the coaching of the program throughout Term 2, and to past 1st V players, Cameron Abbott and Hugo Roles for supporting and helping on the evening. It was also great to have the help from current senior players, Toby Longmire and Harrison Lee, with scoring on the night.
3 X 3 has been a really beneficial format for players to develop and challenge themselves in the off-season. We are looking forward to what happens in future years, as this format becomes more and more popular globally.
Mr Matthew Johnston
Head Coach, Winter Basketball
