Co-Curricular Sport (Junior School)
An active participation in sport benefits the whole Junior School community – staff, students and families – in enriching relationships and building character, teamwork, skills and fitness.
Commitment to any sport involves full participation in training sessions, games and events. For these reasons, sport is compulsory throughout Waverley College and students are expected to prioritise their school sporting commitments ahead of any others.

'Day B' Sport
Every Day B the Junior School has Sport in Periods 5 and 6. The boys wear their school sports uniform to and from school on this day. The afternoon involves all boys in various activities and provides them with the opportunity to participate in sporting areas they perhaps have not tried. Appropriate equipment and clothing is needed on these days.
Equipment requirements include a swimming costume and towel for the swimming season, and shin pads, mouthguards and boots for the winter soccer and rugby season. As it is not possible to participate in these activities without the correct equipment for safety reasons, please ensure your son has the correct sporting requirements for Day B.
- Summer sports uniform: blue shorts, white sports socks, predominantly white sports shoes, school cap, tracksuit and colour team shirt.
- Winter sports uniform: blue shorts, blue sports socks, predominantly white sports shoes, school cap, tracksuit and jersey.
- P.E. Uniform: blue shorts, white sports socks, predominantly white sports shoes, school cap, tracksuit and striped PE polo top.

Sport Trials
Trials for Summer Sport will occur in Week 1 and 2 in Term 1 during school time. Your son will have already nominated his sport preferences, and the trial system allows him to try more than one sport, providing the best opportunity to make a team in a sport that he is interested in playing. Please Note: all boys will make a team, however it may not be their first preference. We strongly encourage all boys to put in some preparation over the holiday period to ensure they give themselves the best chance of making their preferred sport. The process is the same for the Winter Season, with the trials for teams being held towards the end of Term 1 and early Term 2. All this information is in the College Diary.
Training
Once allocated to a team your son will be required to train twice a week. In most cases training will be held after school from 3pm-4.30pm. Some teams do train from 7.15-8.15am due to the availability of facilities. Please be aware of where your son will be training and where he is to be picked up or dropped off.
There is a link to the training schedule at the bottom of this page.
Absence from School Sport
If your son will not be at a game, a note to the coach prior to the game is required. If he is absent from school on a Friday, please contact the College before 9.30am on that Friday to inform the coach if he will be attending the Saturday game. Should your son fall ill overnight, the team captain needs to be contacted. Phone numbers are provided at the start of each sporting season.
