2023 Fees

4th Payment – only applies to Year 6 students continuing into Year 7 in 2024; due date 18/10/2023.

As per the updated conditions of enrolment and as indicated on the College website, for all Year 5 and Year 7 enrolments, Term 1 tuition fees are charged in Term 4, in the year prior. This includes continuing Year 6 (2023) students into Year 7 (2024). This replaces the continuing confirmation deposit usually charged in the 3rd Payment to Year 6. Families with students commencing in Year 5 and Year 7 in 2024 will still receive an invoice in Term 1, 2024 for any applicable sundries, sibling discounts, excursion fees and camps.

Please be advised that if this payment is not made by the due date, your son’s enrolment will be forfeited, and his place will be offered to a waitlisted candidate.

2024 Fees

Discounts and Additional Fee

Fees paid before the prompt payment date attract a $25.00 discount.

Any payment received after the due date will attract an administrative fee.

Please be advised that some financial institutions need more than 48 hours to process their payments.

Please see the last page of your account for payment methods and contact details.

Enrolment Withdrawal Notice

You are reminded that if you wish to withdraw your son from Waverley College, you are required to give one full Term’s notice in writing to the Principal that your son’s enrolment will cease.

The last day you can give notice that your son’s enrolment is finishing at the end of a school Term, is the first day of the same Term. If not received by that date, you must pay one Term’s tuition fees.

The relevant dates for Term 4 2023 and 2024 are below:

We are currently running vital academic integrity lessons with all Year 7 students in an integrated Literacy, Mathematics and Library unit of work. The aim is to equip students with the skills and learnings they need to be confident learners and to demonstrate that completing your own work is as important as ever in light of the explosion of AI writing tools.

As AI evolves and is now an ever-increasing part of our community, we are working with students to help them manage this rapidly shifting learning landscape.

Leveraging strategies and tools that have always been a part of learning—chiefly referencing and acknowledging sources—has come to the fore, and we are teaching students these skills and more.

In the lessons, the students learn how to reference; how to use AI software effectively and with integrity; and how to shape AI prompts.

A useful tool to assist students when creating effective prompts—what we type into AI tools to generate text and responses—is outlined below.

TAP and TASTE for effective prompt engineering.

Term 4 is a short term in the Cadet Calendar – just six Fridays for the Recruits! Dress Code for recruits will be 4B Summer Field Dress which means the DPCU shirt with shirt sleeves down, DPCU trousers bloused and the field hat. In warmer weather, recruits chose not to wear an undershirt but the DPCU shirt must always be worn. Under no circumstances should the undershirt be worn alone.

As of next week, we have a number of exciting external activities including Archery, Laser Tag, Snake Man and Swim Testing. Please keep an eye on the Waverley App and the Routine Orders from week to week to know what to bring.

Are You Ready to Put Wings on Your Dreams at the 2024 Flying Training Camp?

The Royal Aero Club of New South Wales operates from Camden Airport in Sydney’s south-west, with a focus on upskilling young people for future careers in aviation.

They hold an annual Flying Training Camp in the January school holidays, where students as young as 13.5 years of age can go from zero flying experience and work towards their first aviation milestone, the first solo!

This program sees 35-40 kids camping at Camden Airport kickstarting their careers, as well as volunteers from all walks of life giving their time to make this the best possible start in aviation for the student pilots.

Would you like to get your foot in the door and start working towards your pilot licence? This is an ‘in demand’ career path that can see people travel the world doing what they love.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all families for another busy and rewarding Term. Some highlights from this Term have been the wonderful Year 6 Camp, Father’s Day Mass, 120 Year Celebration, Waves Health Week, Wakakirri and the Year 5 Excursion to Wollongong, to name only a few.

I hope the break provides much needed rest and family time. I look forward to seeing the students return to school in Term 4, renewed and ready to finish the year strong.

I would like to wish Mr Olds and his fiancée a beautiful and magical wedding in the school holidays, and we can’t wait to see all the photos on our return.

Coding Camp has been a success this Term and our students have really enjoyed it. Coding Camp will continue in Term 4.

Summer Co-Curricular Sport

The second half of the Summer Co-Curricular season will have begun at the beginning of Term 4. Please see the final updated Summer Co-Curricular Training Schedule for Term 4. Please take note carefully, as there have since been changes from the previous draft schedule sent out last week.

Due to the amount of time between Term 1 and Term 4, and students’ skill level having developed and improved, teams will be open to adjustment. Therefore, coaches will be utilising training and Round 7 in Week 1, Term 4 to decide if any movement between teams is needed for the remaining rounds.

Summer training will commence from Tuesday, 10 October 2023 due to the staff development day on Monday, 9 October 2023.

Home Learning Term 4 Week 1

*Wednesday and Thursday ONLY

We offer all students in Year 5 and Year 6 the opportunity to receive free additional support after school for the completion of home learning tasks. The afternoon sessions also provide a quiet, supervised study space for students who want to complete their assigned tasks.

Home Learning Club operates in the Learning Hub from 3pm-4pm – Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays – during school Term unless there is a scheduled Professional Development meeting and the club will be closed.

Procedures

Click here to register your son

Only register his name once to allow other students the opportunity to attend. The session is limited to 20 spots. There will be a roll call to ensure attendance.

Students are required to stay for the full session unless there is a message in the student diary requesting early leave, a parent’s signature will be required.

Behaviour

As it is important to respect the rights of others to learn and work, all students are expected to settle to work in the Learning Hub and not cause a disturbance for others.

Teachers

If you require any further information, feel free to contact us.

An important note to remember, if afternoon training sessions are cancelled, unfortunately, you cannot send your son to Home Learning as an alternative plan, students are registered for the afternoon sessions in advance and the capacity is always reached.

Try to avoid messaging your son during this period, unless it is urgent.

News From 6 Gold and Mr Ghattas

What a busy Term it has been for the students of 6 Gold. They have been engaged in a diverse range of activities both in and out of the classroom, and I have been impressed with how well they have accepted the many different challenges that have come their way.

In our English unit, ‘Make Yourself Heard’, the students had been studying the graphic novel Illegal and used this as inspiration to create their own graphic novel based on a real life asylum seeker/refugee.

Not only did they develop their research skills, they came to understand the harsh realities that asylum seekers are faced with on their journey to Australia and other countries.

Despite a few technical difficulties faced by some, the standard of the graphic novels produced was outstanding.

Year 6 Camp

All the boys across the grade enjoyed a fun-filled camp at the Collaroy Centre last week. They got to challenge themselves across a variety of different activities, tested their fear of heights, and worked as a team to support each other on the rock climbing and Vertical Challenge obstacles. Charlie Barrett managed to etch his name onto the Vertical Challenge with a time of 46 seconds. Well done Charlie!

I know all the boys have come away with stronger friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
